Riaz and one of his many trophies for halter.
Riaz is out of Silver Sabre, a Grey Arabian stallion born on July 24th 1965. Silver Sabre was mainly Skowronek and Egyptian lines. Riaz's dam was Penny, a QH/Morgan mare. Riaz is a beautiful half arabian standing 15.1 in his younger days. Age has now reduced his size by about a inch but he is still very active. My mom showed Riaz multiple times throughout 4-H. She rode him western, and had shown him in halter, he recieved numerous trophies and ribbons in both divisions. He had also taken Reserve Halter Champion. After 4-H Riaz spent much of his time as a pasture and trail horse for many different children. I never had the chance of riding him myself as I had other horses to ride. He was retired at one point around the age of 20. At 22 he was pulled back out of retirement to take my younger sisters around the ring, when we first started showing. My mother took him back in the ring at this point for 1 Western Pleasure class. He placed 6th out of 25+ horses, over many of the well known QH's in our area. My mom said he did great for spending so many years with kids bouncing on him, and then taking her back out to show one last time. He was then put back into retirement after that show with a occasional ride by my youngest sister. At 25 he came back out of retirement for his final and last time. My sister Hattie and I had joined 4-H and it was our first year. My sister and I worked very hard that year and were well rewarded. My sister showed Riaz Halter, Fitting & Showmanship, and Western Pleasure & Horsemanship mopping up in all of her classes. Judge's were amazed at Riaz's age when they asked. She was asked multiple times in Halter classes. They earned 1st Place High Point that year. Riaz has been in complete retirement since then. He gets his grain every day with special treatment year round. He grazes on the lawn usually all summer long spending his time on the lawn only to go back to pasture to get a drink. He always stays close to the house, and never wanders off too far.
