Incorporation date for Powers was March 1, 1956.  It has been a settlement since 1871.  Known to some as the North Caroline Settlement.  For a long time the area was called Rural. 
    When Mr. Powers bought the timber lands and began logging , in honor of him the town was then called Powers. 
    Logging has been the main industry in our area for nearly a century.  In the early days there was a fair amount of gold taken from the mountains and rivers.  There are still gold
