Actually being replaced for the Challeger2 in the British army, this tank still makes a formidable opponet for any other modern tank. Born is Britain in 1982, 420 vehicles have been delivered to the British Army, until 1990. The design is based in much before studies. Its powerful armour never gets old-fashioned. As the Israeli experience in combat showed up, is much more difficult replace well trained men than tanks, what explains the thick armour of this vehicle, also counting with the Chobham special armour designed for specific anti-RPG protection. Recently, during Desert Storm, the armour was reinforced with ERA (Explosive Reactive Armour). Standard equipment includes Night-thermal sights for commander and gunner, a stabilised system for the main gun, NBC protection and additional fuel drums at the rear.

Heavy armoured and with an outstanding firepower, the challenger was possibly one of the best tank during the 80's, with the Leopard 2 and M1A1 Abrams.
