First T-34 appeared in the Russian front in 1940, and since this moment, the
germans had a tough opponent, faster, tougher, and more powerful than their
own Panzers III and IV. The first T-34 was the T-34/76, because it was armed
with a 76 mm gun. There were other versions during the war, but which saw the
war ending was the T-34/85, with a 85 mm main gun, the one in the picture. This
is included in this section of modern tanks because is still in service in a
number of countries of Africa and Asia, and has taken part in a lot of conflicts
as Middle East, Korea and still is fighting in Africa. The vehicle has no NBC
system, or computerised fire system, nor night sights, but can be fitted with
additional fuel tanks for increasing its autonomy. The T-34/85 was built in
Russia until 1948, when the T-54/55 was built, but since then was manufactured
in the former Czechoslovakia and Poland.
