NAMEMAK MK 20 A1 WIESEL ARMOURED WEAPON CARRIER

{ROThis is not exactly an armoured car or a reconnaissance vehicle. It's a mobile weapons platform for infantry support, more accurately, for parachuters support, as the American XM8, designed to be airdropped with the airborne units. Porsche designed it, and MaK Sistem Gesellschaft produced it, a total of 345 vehicles between 1989 and 1992. There were at first two main versions: one with a 2 men crew, armed with a 20 mm gun, and another one with a 3 men crew, fitting a launcher for the Hughes TOW A2 AT missile system. Not exactly a tank-destroyer, but with a fair chance. It has all-welded steel armour, better than nothing, and, as built, it has no amphibious capabilities. No inmediate need of that. Neither NBC protection system. In the future there will be a version equipped with Stinger AA missile. The one in the picture fits a TOW A2 Hughes AT guided missile system.
