She watched New York pass by with a watchful eye, committing every image to memory, cherishing every sound, taking heed of every smell. Nobody seemed to notice her keen stares, moving on with their busy lives, wondering along with curiosity from different street-stands, calling cabs, beginning their stressful work day with a cup of Starbucks.

This was it. One more desperate attempt at a normal life. It was all she needed.

With a clenched jaw, she gripped the letters in her hand. They all said the same thing. Buttered up, rolled around slightly, making what she didnt want to hear seem nicer, but all the same, stinging memories of the past.

Adelaide, I miss you

         Come home, Addy

         We forgive you, Dela

This time her conscience would not get in the way.  She took a deep breath as   independence replaced her doubt. With a quick movement, she let the parcels go, shivering as the same wind that picked the letters up went through her shirt.

She turned her back on their journey, facing the wind in her quest to reach her apartment, and the only regret she felt was not bringing a heavier coat.
