CP from Seeds
I have tried so many cp seeds thinking that it would be the cheapest way of acquiring CP.
Well, I was wrong. Although money wise you maybe right but sometime Id like to think that
it would just be a waste of time and effort on my part to have this idea. I have tried germinating
Venus fly trap but after one month they just died. The drosera auriculata - I was able to keep for 5 months.
The Sarracenia is now 3 months old and is very promising. After so many trial and error, I finally discover
the best place to raise them. Inside a 6 galloon water container. I used cocopeat which are available on hardware store as blocks.
The pot I used is also made of coco fiber. This will make it easier for me and the plant in case I have decided to transfer it into
a bigger pot. If you will look at the picture of my Sarr, there are about 3 carnivorous leaves already. But lets just wait and see
if it will continue to grow into a mature plant (lets keep our fingers crossed). I currently have two of these and some Sarr minor
have started to germinte too. Did I discouraged you not to acquire cp seed? Well Sarr (oops do not be confused with SARS) is promising
here and according to the net, it can survive for two years without dormacy. Well I still have to find it out for myself.
So still want to try Cp seeds? Ok who am I to stop you? Just try your luck and goodluck. So where did I get my seeds ? I normally order it from the net like seedrack.com
or the one from cooks carnivorous. I also got some seeds from a friend (a carnivorous plant addict as he calls himself.. well
Im still not on his level of addiction I guess) whom I met from the net (though nothing seems to germinate from them he he he) But still
its free and its worth a try right? So if you got the seeds which requires stratification... believe me this really works. One to two months of stratification
is better. If you have an old aquarium (see picture above), you can also used it. However if the 5-6 gallons of plastic containers
are available better use it as your germination box. So I normally cut an opening at the bottom of the container(just look at the picture its quite hard to describe in words)
which will serve a the door to your germinating chamber. This is where I put my small pots containing the CP seeds then I put the container
under the sun but not dircet. From time to time( well actually only every weekend as I am in Manila on a weekday for my work), I would mist the inside of the container with
rain water. In two weeks time, you should already see some life on your pots. GOODLUCK !!!
