Blaze came to us with big expectations, being out of such wonderfully versatile parents, and he has fulfilled each one of them. Blaze has been a fun loving weim since the day that he came to us and he has done just about everything we have asked of him with style.
As a hunter, Blaze is all I could ever ask for cooperative, stylish, hard-hunting, and intelligent. Blaze is a naturally staunch pointer who never lacks in bird finding ability. He has put over 2000 pheasants, chukkar, and quail in the bag over the past five seasons as a guide at local hunting preserves. The praises are endless for his performance by the ladies and gentlemen who have had the pleasure of hunting with him. From his stylish points to his ability to find that last bird, he never hears a complaint.
Blaze decide that he was ready for hunting tests so in the spring of 2002 he qualifying five out of five times for his Senior hunter (SH). On 5/19/02 Blaze attended a WCA Ratings test. He qualified for his Shooting Dog Excellent (SDX) as well as his Novice Retrieving Dog (NRD). He then spent the summer diligently working towards his ultimate goal Master Hunter and in the fall of 2002 he qualify for his Master Hunter (MH). Through his efforts he has also received a Versatile Excellent (VX) rating from the Weimaraner Club of America, which is every quality breeders desire. Blaze has been completely owner trained all through his career in the field.
In the ring, Blaze also gave us much excitement. In his first weekend of showing, out of four shows he was twice the reserve dog and the winners dog in one of the shows for a 3 point major. He was the Best of Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes at the 1999 WCWDC Spring Specialty the following weekend. He then traveled to the 1999 National Specialty weekend where he was the Best of Winners at the Yankee Weimaraner Specialty Show earning him a 5 point major. The rest of his show career which was limited by his poor college student owner's lack of money and hunting season was put on hold for three years. He stepped in the ring in the spring of 2003 for the first time in three years. He was handled by his extremely novice owner, but didn't seem to mind. In five shows he has won two Best of Opposites and with great surprise and excitement he won a Best of Breed (BOB) at the Lancaster Kennel Club on May 11, 2003. Blaze also traveled to Rhode Island to have some fun at the 2003 Nationals and he the winner of a few Versatile/Versatile Excellent classes in specialty shows. He is now retired from the ring and will watch is puppies do there thing in the ring from now on.
Blaze is a wonderful pet, who loves everyone including children and other dogs.
He is always wagging his tail and he just wants to be part of everything that we
do.
Blaze has turned his attention to the water, where he is learning to be a duck dog and has his sights set on a RDX (Retrieving Dog Excellent) and maybe even a run at a NAVHDA Utility Prize. He also will be the resident birddog trainer, helping me with young dogs in the field. Look for Blaze's progeny in the ring and in the field. He has some promising young pups on the ground and more in the works.
