Virgin in Waiting,
David, Age 26
1. The word "Virginity" is often associated with negative connotations. What is YOUR definition of "virginity"? A person who has not had sex.
2. How is this different from "Sexual purity?" Can anyone be sexually
pure, no matter what their past choices have been? A person who has had oral sex can call themself a virgin. I believe someone is sexually pure if they haven't done anything sexual with another person. I consider myself sexually pure.
3. What types of physical intimacy are permissible for you, or what is going too far? I haven't kissed yet and my desire is to kiss only the woman who will become my wife. I think hugging is ok, but touching in a sexual way is too far. That means anything more than touching is too far as well.
4. Is it hard to be a virgin? Why do you believe it is worth the wait? I am a human male who has testosterone - yes it is hard! I believe it is worth the wait because if I ever get married I want my wife to be the only one. I believe in true love and giving myself fully only to one woman. I don't like the thought of being intimate with my wife and her knowing that there was another (or more) before her. That's a sad thought.
5. Have you been in any relationships that have affected your desire to wait
for marriage? (Do you ever wonder if you’ll ever get to have sex)? I haven't been too affected yet. Sometimes I do think that I'll never have sex because I probably won't marry. In my 26 years I haven't found anyone close to marrying. I'm too picky and won't settle. Don't settle for someone you can live with - settle for someone you can't live without.
6. Is there anything that helps you each day with your decision not to have
sex? Honoring the Lord with my decisions and my future wife (God willing I marry).
7. How do you feel about the way virginity and/or waiting to have sex is represented in television and movies? Society is all about instant gratification and unfortunately people don't think long term, so they give in. It bothers me because they are hurting themselves, their future spouse, and ultimately God.
8. What are some words of advice for someone who wants to wait? Live a life pleasing to the Lord. Think of what your wife or husband will think of your sexual actions. Do you want them to be pleased with you or disappointed? Do you want them to feel special or not?
