Being broke sucks. Well, okay, that’s obvious, but being broke and needing (okay wanting) to shop really sucks. So we’ve compiled a handy list of tips to get your through those dry spells and still come out looking good. *Learn to recognize when a sale is actually a good deal. It’s a simple theory, when you have less cash; you need to find prices that are less. However, many people get confused and they buy something just because it’s on sale. However, a 15% sale or $5 off isn’t a great buy, and sometimes people simply see the word sale and assume they’re getting a good deal. What you need to scope for is those 50% sales, that way you know you’re getting a killer buy. *Set yourself a budget…and don’t skim out shopping trips (completely). The first part makes sense, but you may be questioning the second. Well first let’s concentrate on part one: setting a budget. Give yourself a small amount for each month, and don’t go over. Now, for the anti-skimming deal, see its like going on a diet. If you cut out candy completely one day you’re gonna binge, same thing with shopping, one day you’re gonna splurge, and it won’t be pretty to your wallet. *Pay with cash. This is a biggie, all credit cards will do is make you spend more money (that you obviously don’t have, otherwise you wouldn’t be charging it). Plus, cash makes the transaction smoother and returns easier. *Develop an “eye”. You’ll need a sharp lookout for discount shopping, and for finding the best deals. If you can keep a close watch, shopping will be easier and you’ll be able to do a lot of it in thrift stores, at flea markets, garage sales etc. etc. *Get good at doing it yourself. With this ability you’ll be able to revamp out of date styles, customize super cheap deals you find at thrift stores, and even make your own clothes (if you get good enough). This one’ll save you a lot of moolah because fabric is cheap and if you find really great steals that aren’t exactly to your liking you can change them.
