While gems are in their natural habitat whether it be in the earth or elsewhere, Mother Nature takes precious care of them.
Once these gems are fabricated into jewelry or other items, they still need special care to keep their beauty that nature has provided them with.

Here are the ways to take care of your gemstones.

Polished stone pendants of any kind

Holding your pendant by the cord or chain, gently swirl it around in a basin of lukewarm water to which you have added mild dishwashing liquid.  Rinse them and let them dry on absorbant paper (if possible, where there is sun).

All types of earrings

Use the same procedure as above, but by holding them by the stems or fish hooks.

Chipstone and beaded necklaces and bracelets

The necklaces and bracelets can be put directly into a basin of lukewarm water to which you have added mild dishwashing liquid.  Using your fingers, gently swirl them around for about 2 minutes.  Remove from the sudsy water and rinse them.  Let dry the same way as the pendants.

All stone items that are on a backing

Since these items are glued, it is best to use a soft cloth that you have moistened and added a few drops of gentle dishwashing liquid to.  Gently go over the gem surface and then using a wet cloth, remove the suds and let dry as mentionned above.

Rings and chains

The polished stone rings can be cleaned the same way as the necklaces and bracelets.  Although chains are not gems, they also can be cleaned the same way.

Montages on Agate slices

Agate slices are fragile, so when cleaning these, I suggest you hold on to the slice while swirling it around in water (as above), rinse and when dry, use a soft cloth to polish the slice with.

Items on Amethyst clusters (excluding Gemstone Bonsai)

First clean the figurine, etc that is on the cluster the same way you would clean items on a backing (as above).  The cluster should never be put directly in water. See pictures and explanations on cleaning a cluster below.

Dreamcatchers

Unfortunately, dreamcatchers cannot be washed.  To remove dust you can use a soft paint brush (preferably outside) and brush the web, feathers, etc.  On a nice day when there is only a slight breeze, you can hang your dreamcatcher outside, either from a branch or on a line and leave it there for hours.  Nature will do the cleaning for you.

Gemstone Bonsai and Amethyst Clusters
Slip fingers through branches as seen on left.  Turn your hand around and plunge the stones into the sudsy water while gently swirling it around.  Remove and rinse, then let dry.
Using an old toothbrush dipped in sudsy water, gently
brush the cluster.  Cover the
bottom and underneath of the cluster and carefully rinse the Amethyst.  Lay on absorbant paper and let dry in a sunny spot.

I hope this helps you to keep your gemstones as beautiful as can be.
