In November 2000, this very special event was held at Londons Royal Albert Hall to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, with which Who lead singer Roger Daltrey has a large interest. Joining forces with such contemporaries as Paul Weller, Bryan Adams and Nigel Kennedy, as well as newer faces such as Noel Gallagher of Oasis and Kelly Jones of the Stereophonics, the band bash out some of their greatest hits from their thirty or so years in the music business. Those who may think the band might have run out of steam by now will be proved wrong by this superb concert, in which many of the songs performed are extended beyond their original length and played with such ferocity and enthusiasm, its almost as if the band were newcomers. Some of the guest spots are a bit thin (Noel Gallagher providing extra guitar on Wont Get Fooled Again), but for the majority add to the songs and the overall feel. By this evidence, The Who are still one of the best live acts ever to grace the stage. Even without the sadly missed Keith Moon on drums, his replacement Zak Starkey more than adequately fills his shoes, bashing and thumping his way through each number with vigour.
A great concert presented with astounding 5.1 surround sound option, so you can really annoy the neighbours.
EXTRA FEATURES
For a live performance, this two disc package features an OK set of extras, although its nothing really to shout about. There is 12 minutes of rehearsal footage, featuring most of the guest stars, a short featurette about the Teenage Cancer Trust that Roger Daltrey is involved with, a pre-show backstage montage and a well done multiple angle feature for Pinball Wizard. Thats all you get for your money, but fans of The Who will be very satisfied with the concert itself, after all, thats why youre buying it, isnt it?
