UNINVITED (MUSCUTT) You say theres a party going on at someones house so then well come on down But no not you nobody wants you here you youre the uninvited one who always fucks things up for us So what the hell are you doing here get out and leave us alone Standing on the doorstop with a bottle in your hand staring at the door as if you didnt know You know youll never get past it so why dont you give in and go home You youre the uninvited one youll never be the one who is popular with friends You never keep up with the friends, the trends so just leave us alone If memory serves me correctly (these songs were written a long time ago!) this was based loosely on one of our friends from college who we kind of joked that we didnt really like. As it was, he was one of our group of mates who we always hung round with, but this song takes it to an extreme where nobody likes this person and basically tells them to bugger off. One of the very first songs I wrote for the band (and it shows). Not as bad as some, but still pretty awful.
CANINE PSYCHO (MUSCUTT) You know me I always come here so why do act as though Im a stranger? Waiting just to see who I am crash out on the floor after five minutes of fun But youll be back when theres food or maybe youll try and kill me Youre a psycho prying toys from others mouths youre a psycho who pays no attention to rules Begging for food as you lift up a paw but you dont let the tennis ball go far You seem to forget me but Ill never forget you the bite mark still lingers a short sharp reminder of you Youre a psycho prying toys from others mouths youre a psycho who pays no attention to rules Another of the very first songs committed to paper, and at one time the song title for this one was a contender for the name of the group! Id never have lived that down if wed called ourselves Canine Psycho. This is about Simons dogs, well, one of them, Megan, who is quite mad. Shes not mad in a kind of aagh, rabid dog! Get it away or itll bite me! kind of a way, shes very sweet, but just does some odd things, like biting ladders and chasing shadows and that. This song got re-written a while later and was re-titled Crazy Dog.
APOLOGISE (MUSCUTT) Knowing I should feel bad for you and people tell me I should be sorry But what about every time I gave in and caved in to you you didnt stop to consider youre wasting your time Did you ever consider that youre also wasting mine? Apologise to me and maybe Ill be sorry too but until you do so long and so well Apologise to you and you might be a stranger for causing me this pain Weeks pass and I see you waiting by the phone for me to make a call that will never come Because Im never going to say that word to you that you want to hear You didnt stop to consider youre wasting your time did you ever consider that youre also wasting mine? Apologise to me and maybe Ill be sorry too but until you do so long and so well Apologise to you and you might be a stranger for causing me this pain Here we go, Petes first relationship song. I went through a phase of relationship songs, most of which I binned because there were too many. There was one called Hands Of Time which was pure slush and got chucked away pretty quickly! Looking back, I guess I should have saved them for prosperity, but they really were bad. All breaking up and nobody loves me kind of things which is good in moderation but there was like, twenty songs like that and it was just too many.
IMAGINE ME AS A PERSON (MUSCUTT) Take a look at the people and imagine me in your thoughts They are everywhere and anywhere but theres only one to me and what do you give me when you take? All I needed was to be in your thoughts some of the time Come alive at night and imagine me drifting going places where time exists Where I feel like somebody else and what do you give me as you take? All I needed was to be in your thoughts at least some of the time Originally called Imaginary People. I suppose you could say this was being away from someone you love, like youre surrounded by people but theres only one you want and you cant have them because theyre miles away.
TURN ON ME (MUSCUTT) And to think of love and that this would happen to me But now it doesnt make me feel bad just turn away and leave it Now nothing really matters to me now just turn your back on me Walking away is fine with me and to think it would happen And it would make me jealous you dont see its just yourself you are hurting Only making you sad just turn away and leave it and nothing really matters to me And to think youve changed whats happening inside your head You say Id never understand you say Id never understand you say Id never understand, understand you Another relationship song, this time about what an ex-lover does to their ex-partner breaking up with them when they dont expect it, and coming to terms with it and saying theyre the one with the problem, walking away from everything without a reason.
