| In the mid eighties, you couldn't move for Ghostbusters - toys, cartoons, books, bedcovers, t-shirts, pencil cases and this film, that started it all. Following three doctors who are sacked from their position at a university for wasting time and resources on paranormal activity, they decide to go into business as the Ghostbusters. Fortunately for them, they happen to do this around about the same time there is a massive rise in the levels of ghosts flying about in New York City. Dr Venkman (a wonderfully deadpan Murray) falls in love with a client (Weaver) who becomes possessed by an evil entity called Zuul, and matches up with a loser accountant from her apartment called Lewis who is possessed in a similar manner by an entity called the Gatekeeper. When they get together, they unleash all manner of hellish things upon the city, and the Ghostbusters go from being kooky weirdos to saviours of mankind. Filled with top quality acting from all concerned, this was a brilliant success in 1984, and this anniversary edition shows it in all its digital glory. A great fun packed comedy for all ages. |
| EXTRA FEATURES There are some nice animated menus holding the extras together, which consist of a video commentary (black silhouettes of those commentating - Ramis and Reitman, appear on the screen as they point out various events on screen), a batch of old looking deleted scenes (including a smashing short skit with Ackroyd and Murray as homeless tramps), some split screen film to storyboard comparisons, a feature on the special effects crew, before and after multiple angle sequences on special effects scenes, a behind the scenes feature and art galleries on the ghosts, storyboards and concept drawings. |
