| Another of the definitive horror films of all time arrives on a brilliant disc worthy of the film. The story, allegedly based on a true tale of a demonic possession focuses on Regan, a normal, healthy twelve year old, who is suddenly struck by frankly odd behaviour (grimacing, screaming obscenities, killing friends of your mother, having strange writing appear on your stomach and vomiting over priests are not the norm for twelve year old girls, apparently). As her mother Chris becomes more and more desperate, she calls on Father Karras for help, suggesting exorcism. Karras is none too pleased with this suggestion, and basically tells her it is a load of old clap trap. However, after examining the girl, he too begins to believe that malevolent forces have inhabited Regan. To say any more would rob the viewer of one of the most famous scenes in film history, and a tale of horror which is still frightening today. Winner of two Oscars (and deservedly so) this is a true film classic which every film fan should own. |
| EXTRA FEATURES Unless youre desperate for the eleven minutes of deleted footage recently restored to the Version Youve Never Seen, this is the version to go for, carrying masses of extras on a double sided disc (to save on bringing it out as a two disc package, I guess). Included are two commentary tracks, one by director Friedkin and another by author of the original novel, William Peter Blatty. These are both informative and raise interesting points about the film. If that isnt enough, theres a 50 odd minute documentary on the making of the film called The Fear Of God, and manages to interview many of the actors involved with the film. The original deleted ending is here in all its uncut glory, as well as a storyboard gallery and numerous trailers and film recommendations. |
