Region 2
19.99 - 24.99

Director: Various
Running Time: 304 minutes

Notes: Volume One of the 1967 season of the TV series
The Avengers gets its debut outing on digital format, and included here are six episodes full of glorious sixties capers and adventure. Ranging from bizarre ageing techniques in From Venus From Love, shady people who turn important managing directors into gibbering wrecks in The Fear Merchants and comic book criminality in The Winged Avenger.
More boxed sets of The Avengers are being released all the time, and by the strength of these episodes, if youre a fan, theyll be essential viewing.
The series is shot in a similar style to other 1960s programmes of the time, notably The Prisoner, and while lacking that particular shows sense of surrealism, it has certainly aged in the same vintage way (not to mention featuring a few cameo appearances!).
EXTRA FEATURES
Not much on the ground for these six episodes, a sparse white rabbit feature (entitled Follow The Hat bowler, naturally!) where short sequences of recollections, anecdotes and facts are displayed at random intervals. There is also some picture galleries featuring things like the cars and the fashion, as well as a trailer. Finally, there is a rare short film/trailer which served to announce the arrival of the series in glorious, fantastic, brand spanking newcolour!
The extras are repeated on both discs, wasting an opportunity to include some more. Not as much effort as could have been possible, but a good start.
