Lol, these are interview questions from a pageant website called American Co Ed...at least I think that was the name! Of course being in NZ, I don't do pageants myself, I just Googled it because I was bored and I love Google, but when I found all these questions I figured they had to be useful for something!

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY? My role model knows who she is. I’m not going to say who it is, coz she doesn’t know about this website and she might not appreciate it if for some reason she decides to type her name into Google or Yahoo or somewhere and comes up with this huge big speel I've written about her! That'd freak me out too! She's my role model because although she might not realise it, she's had a huge amount of influence on me in a relatively short space of time. She made it a lot easier to deal with my depression because she's had it as well, and she turned out...relatively normal (lol!) so I realised that it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be some insane, emotional mess for the rest of your life, although whether or not you end up turning into a twit remains to be seen!?
WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS? To get through the rest of this year at high school without losing my nut, and then go on to university and do a BSW (Bachelor of Social Work), which will take four years, then eventually, married, house, kids etc.
WHO DO YOU TALK TO WHEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM? The same person I mentioned in the role model question, if I can, or my best friend. If I can't talk to either of them, which is unusual, then I write it down, in a letter, but I hardly ever sent them.
WHAT ONE THING WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHANGE ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHY? My weight. I know that sounds superficial, but it’s true! I’m not overweight for my height or anything, And I don’t carry it all in one place so I look in proportion, but it’s just one of those things that drives me (and probably most other girls my age) absolutely up the wall. When I look in the mirror I see someone who is not unattractive as she is, but who’d look a heck of a lot better if she lost 5-20kgs (unfortunately I don’t know how many lbs that is, at the moment I think I’m about 165lbs, and roughly 5’6”). On second thoughts, maybe I should change the attitude I have towards my appearance!
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN? Don’t be scared of anyone. Haha, I know that sounds slightly dense, but it’s true. Obviously she didn’t mean go and talk to the dodgy old man creeping around your garden at night, it was just about having the confidence to go and talk to people without feeling self conscious. Hasn’t sunk in yet though.
WHAT ARE THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU BEST? Introverted, weird and scintillating. And no, I did not call myself scintillating of my own accord, Lorraine used it to describe me and I thought it was cool! Hehe!
IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE AND WHY? New Zealand. Yep. I already live here. I’d actually quite like to live somewhere else, like Japan since it's awesome, but not permanently, I’d get really homesick coz I’ve lived here all my life, and NZ also seems like a pretty good place to bring kids up. Of course recently I've also started liking the idea of entering my children (if I ever have them) in pageants. Sadly they're nowhere near as big here as they are in the US, in fact I'm not even sure if we have ANY! So yeah, living somewhere that has pageants would be very cool too!
IF YOU COULD MEET ANYONE IN THE WORLD (LIVING OR NOT) WHO WOULD IT BE ANY WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THEM? It’d be a tie between Audrey Hepburn and my birth mother. Audrey Hepburn because I’m kind of obsessed with her (she might be a bit scared!), she just seemed like the perfect woman. She was one of the best looking people I’ve ever seen, and she was also incredibly down to earth and kind. When she was older she was an ambassador for UNICEF. I'm not sure what I'd ask her...probably what she thought she'd be doing if she hadn't become an actor, and what she would have liked to have kept doing had she not been diagnosed with cancer.
The other one is my birth mother, because I know her name and I’ve started trying to find her, but I seem to have hit a bit of a dead end. Anyway, that’s my really personal business and not something I want to write all over the internet, especially not at the moment. If/when I get to meet her, I'll probably ask what she was craving when she was pregnant with me, and also who my father is and if she knows where he is now.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION? Hmm, probably the possession I'm most attached to is my laptop, sad and nerdy as that is. I just use it so much (every day) and nearly all my stuff is on there, schoolwork included, so if I lost it I’d be in trouble, but I’d say my most important possession is all my photos, and I have sooo many!
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE ACTOR OR ACTRESS? Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe. Just because they’re awesome and gorgeous and stylish and there’s nobody like them around anymore.
IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYONE ELSE'S LIFE, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY? I don’t think I could pick one specific person. I’d just like to be someone with a lot of influence over teenagers, not so I could control them and use them to take over the world, but so I could do something similar to what Audrey Hepburn and Princess Diana have done, and use my celebrity status to influence people for the better.
IF YOU HAD ONLY ONE WISH, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY? For 100 more wishes! Lol, I honestly can’t pick just one thing to wish for, but if I absolutely had to pick something it’d be to be able to be happy with myself the way I am.
IF YOU COULD GIVE $50,0000 TO ANY CHARITY IN THE WORLD, WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE AND WHY? Youthline (www.youthline.co.nz) in New Zealand, they’re a counselling and mentoring service for young people (duh!) and they try to help them deal with their problems when the youths feel like they've got no one else to turn to. It’s a great cause, but like so many other charities, it doesn’t get enough support and exposure. Mental health care in NZ, especially for youth, is far from flash, so they need all the publicity they can get!
IF YOU WON A MILLION DOLLARS, HOW WOULD YOU SPEND IT? I’d save just under half of it, donate some to various charities and organizations, spend some on helping my friends and family, and of course I’d spend some on myself, probably on liposuction and other cosmetic surgery (having my eyes lasered would be pretty high on my list). Sad but true.
WHAT DOES THE WORD "LOYAL" MEAN TO YOU? Someone who stands up for something they believe in or someone who is important to them and doesn't care what anybody else thinks of them.
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE PERSON? It’d be a tie between the same person who is my role model, and my best friend.
IF YOU HAD 60 MINUTES TO TALK ON TV WHAT WOULD YOU TALK ABOUT? I honestly don’t know. I’d probably waste a lot of it trying to be all witty and clever, so by the time I actually think of something worthwhile to talk about, nobody would be watching anymore!
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH? Sheer stubborn will. It doesn't happen all that often, but when I really want something I stop at nothing until I get it. Also my ability to hide the way I really feel, or what I really think. I never realised just how good I was at it until a year or so ago, it's a bit of a weird feeling, but it makes you feel secure too, like you're not totally transparent.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS? How I'm better at pushing people away or holding them off than I am at getting emotionally close to them, or letting them get close to me. It sucks. Well, at least for me. I guess it's just because I'm scared of being let down. So simple, but so complex.
WHAT IS YOUR BEST QUALITY? I like to think I'm pretty good at understanding people and why they feel the way they do. Particularly with depression and sadness, because I've been there for several years of my life, so I know where people are coming from, at least to more of an extent than a total outsider would. Hopefully.
WHAT IS YOUR WORST QUALITY? Apparently I have a tendency to be selfish and arrogant. I don't know. It was news to me before someone who shall remain nameless suddenly jumped in out of the blue and accused me of it! I don't know, maybe gullibility is my worst quality...
YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE WORD. WHICH WORD BEST DESCRIBES YOU: SEXY, SMART, BEAUTIFUL OR TALENTED? AND WHY? Smart. More intelligent than smart, not because I consider myself clever, that word just seemed to fit better than all the others, and be the most flattering. It's also the one of the four I'd most like to be. "You can get by on good looks for about fifteen minutes, but after that you'd better know something!"
DO YOU FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE IN SMALL GATHERINGS OR LARGE PARTIES? Small gatherings. I'm a surprisingly shy person, at least until you get to know me really well (then I'm weird and kinda...quirky!) so I get on better one to one or in small groups than with mobs of people. Although mobs of people are good to hide in! I think if I were an animal I'd be a chameleon!
EVERYBODY WORRIES ABOUT SOMETHING. WHAT DO YOU WORRY ABOUT? I'm a perfectionist, so I worry about a lot of stuff. Not being good enough, for both my own standards and the standards of other people. Also about my appearance and my weight. I've been known to weigh myself two or three times a day. Sometimes. Not terribly often, but it does happen.
WHAT MAKES YOU ANGRY? Not being understood. Being accused of being a child. Being beaten (mainly at auditions) by someone younger than me or who I know isn't as experienced. Or maybe they're just the things that make me jealous!
WHAT MAKES YOU CRY? Seeing people close to me cry, especially when there's nothing I can do to help. Also losing people I love, or potentially losing them. I don't cry much though, surprisingly.
WHAT WOULD YOU TAKE TO THE MOON AND WHY? I'd take a camera, because I just have this thing about taking photos of everything and everyone I know. I have an entire wall in my bedroom full of pictures of my friends and I from about the last 5 years. Click here to see a photo I took of it about 6 months ago.
IF YOU HAD A PEN PAL WHAT PART OF THE WORLD WOULD HE OR SHE LIVE IN? I actually already have a penpal, from Japan. She and her father and grandparents were my host family for a week when I went to Hiroshima in April last year. Lately we haven't been writing much though.
WHO IS YOUR BEST FRIEND AND WHY? I've only ever discovered one person who I'm not at least slightly awkward around. You know the little things, like the uncorfortable silences in coversations, and the "I don't mind." answers to questions when you don't want to be pushy, well they never (usually) happens to us, which is what sets our relationship apart from my relationship with all my other friends.
WHEN YOU LEAVE SCHOOL, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED FOR? I couldn't care less. I doubt my school will even remember me, because I'm so quiet and boring. I don't mind though, it's good that after the end of this year I'll never have to see any of those people ever again, unless I choose to. Obviously there ares some people I will go out of my way to stay in touch with, but not too many, I'd say 3 at the most!
WHAT IS THE FIRST QUALITY THAT PEOPLE NOTICE ABOUT YOU, AND WHY? That I don't say very much. Or even do very much. People probably notice how boring I am. Lol.
IF YOU COULD TRADE PLACES WITH SOMEONE FAMOUS, WHO WOULD YOU BE? Physically probably Kate Moss, because she's a similar height as me but she's still really skinny. I know that sounds shallow, but yeah. That's me. Mentally I don't know. Someone who is more intelligent and more confident than I am would probably be a good start.
WHAT IS THE WORSE ADVICE SOMEONE HAS GIVEN YOU? Not really the worst advice, but the most useless/irrelevant advice anyone (my mother) ever gave me was to ignore bullies. For Christ's sake! If bullies were so insignificant it was possible to ignore them, why would they be such a problem in the first place? A lot of people seeme t think that being bullies is some sort of childhood 'rite of passage' that all children have to go through and put up with! Absolutely not! It's not like a cold, it isn't just going to go away if you ignore it, you have to do something about it otherwise it'll get a million times worse!
DO YOU THINK YOU ARE PRETTY, WHY? I don't think I'm ugly, but I could definately be a lot better looking, especially if I was thinner, because at the moment I'm one of those people who looks as if they're supposed to be thin, but they're just kinda padded, and that's not attractive! In short, no, I wouldn't call myself pretty. I'm just sort of, there. Not pretty, not ugly, just there. I remember in intermediate school my mother kept telling me "You'd be one of the nicest looking girls in your year, if you got your weight down." Gee, and then I wonder why I'm so obsessed with my weight!
WHAT IS ONE THING THAT YOU HAVE HIDDEN FROM YOUR FAMILY? How about this entire website! Haha, not for any specific reason, but just because I have stuff on here that might piss my family off.
WHAT ARE THE POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT YOU THAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW? Get to know me before you write me off as boring and uncool. If you know me and still don't like me, then it's mind over matter. I don't mind, and you don't matter!
WHAT DOES FRIENDSHIP MEAN TO YOU? This is gonna sound sad, but I actually don't have that many friends, and by friends I mean close friends who I actually trust with almost anything. I have quite a lot of people I get on pretty well with, and talk to on a social level, although I wouldn't trust most of those people on a serious level, or go out of my way to socialise with them, because that's just what I'm like. They do say though, if you can count the number of good friends you have on one hand, then you're lucky. So I guess I'm lucky. Lol.
WHO IS THE PERSON IN YOUR FAMILY THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS TALK TO AND WHY? I don't talk to my family about very much. Anyone in my family. Enough said. My close friends are a thousand times more important, because I know they like me because they've chosen to, and not just because we're related.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A RED CRAYON? Eat it! No, umm, probably draw flowers and stars and hearts and stuff. Typically girly. Or melt it and make a candle.
WHAT FOOD BEST DESCRIBES YOUR PERSONALITY? Camembert cheese. Something you either like or can't stand at first, although if you keep on eating it you find it's not that bad. But it does have one really bad side. It makes you really fat if you eat too much. Of course I don't make people fat, but yeah, you get the idea!
IF YOU COULD BE A SUPERHERO FOR ONE DAY, WHAT WOULD YOUR POWER BE? It'd have something to do with being able to understand and predict how people feel and what they're going to do, so I know how to word things and put across what I want to put across, without any misunderstandings.
WHICH TV PROGRAM BEST DESCRIBES YOUR LIFE? Anything farcical, that makes people laugh, but also has lots of those moment that just make you cringe. Why does the episode of Friends where someone, Joey I think, gets the Thanksgiving turkey stuck on his head suddenly come to mind? I think that gag would just HAVE to be in there somewhere!
WHAT ERA WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO LIVE IN AND WHY? Victorian England, so long as I could be wealthy and have a decent education. Although the arranged marriages and lack of personal hygiene would deffinately get to me after awhile.
IF YOU HAD TO SPEND $1,000,000 ON YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT? Two words, cosmetic surgery. Also travelling. I want to go to England. I don't know why, I just do. Also back to Japan, although I'm planning on doing that anyway, eventually.
DEFINE A "LADY"? "Wear your clothes tight enough to prove you are a woman, but loose enough to prove you are a lady."-Mae West. It says it all!
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU AND WHY? I've been known to be really competitive, especially with people I dislike, so I guess that's my motivation. Also that I'm a neat freak and being disorganised really freaks me out!
WHAT IS THE GREATEST CHALLENGE FACING YOUNG WOMEN TODAY? Cliche ridden as it is, body image and pressure to be thin. I know everyone bleats about it all the time, but it's there. Magazines might print lots of articles about loving yourself the way you are, but do you see any fat models? No. Hypocrisy much?!
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU SAW YOURSELF MISREPRESENTED IN A MAGAZINE? I'd like to think I'd be mature and confident enough to ignore it, but realistically I'd probably get really angry and do my best to beat the living sh*t out of whoever was responsible! I've already been misrepresented once, in an interview I did when I was in a photography exhibition (as a subject, not a photographer). They taped me speaking and whoever transcribed what I said on the tape onto paper took things out of the context I said them in, which resulted in my being misquoted more times than I was accurately quoted! To go from bad to worse it's now been published in a book too! And my surname is spelled wrong! Gargh! Lol
WHAT CONFUSES YOU? Myself. And both of my closest friends. Mostly my relationships with them. I know how I feel, but I've no idea how they feel, which is scary.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE INCREASING POPULARITY OF "REALITY TV"? It's so lame. It's never real, because the people know they're being watched, so they act the way they want to be portrayed. If people want to see reality, they should turn their televisions off and start looking at the real world!
WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT, FRIENDSHIP OR PERSONAL SUCCESS? They're interlinked. Personal success should include friendships, and cultivating strong relationships with your friends IS a personal success!
WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT, EMOTIONAL STRENGTH OR BEING TOTALLY OPEN? Emotional strength. Nobody is ever completely open, not even to themselves, and the people who say they are are the least open of all, because they're blatant liars!
DO YOU THINK YOU WERE HAPPIER AS A CHILD OR TODAY? WHY? Definately as a child. Because sometimes it doesn't hurt to be naive.
WHAT MAKES YOU MAD? Being second best, especially to people I don't like. As my uncle said to me once, second place just means you're the first of the losers. At least that's how I see it for myself. I don't think I'd say that to anyone else.
HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO LOOK YOUR BEST AT ALL TIMES? Pretty important, because as shallow as it sounds, your appearance is the first thing people notice about you, and first impressions are really important. But of course, even if you're absolutely gorgeous, but you're completely dense, people aren't going to want to be arounf you very much anyway, so, luckily for me, intelligence will win over good looks nearly every time.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU NOTICED A SELF-DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR PATTERN IN A FRIEND? It's not so much would WOULD I do, it's what DID I do. The girl I noticed wasn't a really good friend, in fact I didn't even like her all that much, but I noticed she'd scratched something into her leg with a pin, so I asked her how she did it. Of course she brushed it off as "just nothing", and wore her dress to school from then on.
I realised it wasn't as simple as that and for a couple of days I wondered what I should do, because I knew that it was my responsibility to do something. In the end I told our (then) English teacher, because both of us like her, and also because I was aware that this particular teacher had been keeping an eye on the girl for awhile, and would probably appreciate knowing about what was happening.
After I told her, the teacher told the deputy principal and student co-ordinator, and they came and pulled me out of Spanish to talk to me some more. I said that because I wasn't close friends with this girl, I wasn't exactly sure why or how long she'd been cutting, but that I'd recognised it straight away, so I thought I should tell someone so the school, and probably also her parents, if they weren't already, were aware of what was happening.
A little while later, the school counsellor told me the girl ended up going to a counsellor and on anti-depressants, so it's all good. I hope.
I wonder if she ever found out who "told on her". I think the teacher was going to just let her assume she'd noticed of her own accord, but she may have figured out that it was me. Not that it matters.
IF YOU FOUND YOURSELF IN A SITUATION WHERE YOU WERE BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BECAUSE OF RACE, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Attempt to move swiftly away from the situation! If that wasn't possible, then I'd just...I dunno, fume silently, and seek revenge later! Mwahahaha! :-P
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO KEEP THE PEACE BETWEEN FEUDING FRIENDS? "If something is worth fighting over then it's worth sorting out."
WHY IS IT THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE MORE ATTRACTIVE TEND TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL? It's not just good looking people who are more successful, it's people who perceive themselves as worthwhile, attractive people. Why? Because if you think you are intelligent and good-looking your self-esteem and confidence will be higher, which means you'll be more likely to take advantage of opportunities which will allow you to be more successful than somebody with low self-esteem and who is always afraid of failing.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR? WHY? WHAT COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THIS COLOR? Purple. I don't know why, it's just really pretty, and girly, but it's not pink. I like pink, but I'm not quite THAT girly! Purple seems like a good balance.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT PUBLIC SPEAKING? Depends what context it's in. If I'm myself, in front of a group of people, having to do a speech, I'll be scared out of my mind, but if I am on a stage in front of an audience, particularly one full of kids or close friends, being some sort of fairytale character I will be fine. That's one of my favourite things. I guess you can't really understand it, but I'm one of the few cases where "introverted actor" is not an oxymoron!
WHAT IS YOUR WORST PHYSICAL FLAW? WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS THE WORST? Hehe, yet again, it'd be my weight. It's the worst because everything else about me is reasonable, so if I were thinner I wouldn't have any huge dislikes about my appearance, which would be pretty unusual for a teenage girl! Other than that, it'd have to be that for some weird reason beyond my conprehension, my eyebrows appear to be uneven. One is higher than the other. I'd never noticed it until recently, when I looked at a photo and wondered how that happened, and then I looked at all those other photos and noticed it there too! I don't think it's that obvious unless you're looking for it though, since it's taken me almost eighteen years to notice!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY CHARACTER? Hmm, Meg from Hercules because she's cool, Belle from Beauty and the Beast because she's Disney's cutest nerd, Jasmine from Aladdin because she has a tiger and she wear trousers, the White Rabbit because it's just cool and I had my photo taken with him/her/it in Disneyland (whoever was inside the costume was surprisingly short, shorter than me!) and the Cheshire Cat because it's purple, incredibly witty and can magically disappear!
WHAT ONE THING ABOUT WOMEN DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND? Why they play games and lie to try and make themselves more attractive to men. I know I'm probably supposed to understand that, since I'm a girl too, but I don't. I think it's ridiculous. Why can people not realise that if a man doesn't have the maturity or intelligence to accept you for who you are, then he's not worth playing games with in the first place. If he's right for you, he'll like you regardless of how you try and put yourself across.
IF YOU HAD THIRTY MINUTES A DAY TO DO ANYTHING YOU WANTED, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? WHY? Probably write. I used to write heaps, stories, letters, journals, poems, everything, but now I don't do it nearly so much as I used to, mainly because I never make time for it, and I know I'll regret it in a few years time, so if every day had an extra half hour, that's what I'd do.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON YOU WOULD LIKE TO TEACH YOUR CHILDREN? Not to waste their time trying to impress someone, male or female, who is shallow anough not to respect them for who they really are. if you need to change (and I'm talking drastic changes, not little things, like quitting smoking or something) then they're not worth it. I'd also like to teach them the other side of that, that they should accept people for who they are, regardless of what they look like or what their race/religion/favourite colour is. So long as they're polite, friendly and don't encourage you to do bad things, they are worthwhile getting to know.
DO YOU FEEL THAT STUDENTS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO LEARN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE? WHY OR WHY NOT? To a point yes, I think it's good idea to teach children languages when they're young (and about the cultures attached to the languages too), but, if, when they're older, they're not interested, there's no point forcing it. If they're not motivated bu interest, they won't put it the work required, so they're not going to be successful, so why not spend the time doing something they enjoy?
WHAT DO YOU MOST VALUE IN YOUR FRIENDS? WHY? Ability to listen and to help me put things in perspective, since I have the tendency to blow things out of proportion and panic, often without justification. Also that they can make me laugh.
WHICH TRAIT DO YOU MOST DEPLORE IN OTHERS? Ignorance (especially when accompanied by a lack of willingness to do anything about it), arrogance, hypocrisy, racist attitude, selfishness, not being prepared to accept other people's point-of-view. All those things drive me absolutely up the wall!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BIRD? WHY? Big Bird! He's tall, fluffy, yellow, has stripy legs and is very cool! What's not to love! Haha, I have a very funny song called "Kermit and Big Bird on Marajuana" that a friend sent me, I HAVE to figure out where I can upload it so I can put it here! It's not suitable for kids, but oh well.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE THING ABOUT YOU? WHY? The more you talk to me, the more intelligent I seem! I realise, without being arrogant, that I am intelligent, not necessarily academically, but I'm proud of that fact that I seem to have an opinion on most things and I'm able to express that opinion reasonable well. Lyke, most of the time. *ditzy giggle* Maybe. I think. Hehehe.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SERVICE AND HOSPITALITY? Service is when you're obliged to do somethng for someone, hospitality is when you do it because you want to do it.
OTHER THAN PHYSICAL APPEARANCE, WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF? WHY? The same as what I just said was the most impressive thing about me. That I am able to express opinions (feelings are another story!) pretty well. Also that I'm always willing to listen to people, even if I can't always give them useful advice.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER TEENAGE GIRLS WHO ARE NEVER SATISFIED WITH THE WAY THEY LOOK? Don't stand so close to the mirror. Seriously! If you do, you'll notice things nobody else ever will, and get hung up on them, which is never good!
DO YOU FIND IT EASY OR DIFFICULT TO SAY "NO?" Depends what it's about really. Usually I do, because I don't like disappointing people, but sometimes I'm just too lazy to be bothered doing something. Lol.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE A PERFECT EVENING? One where I don't have to do anything and I can just relax, probably with people close to me, but being on my own wouldn't be too bad either.
IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE TO BE BEAUTIFUL OR INTELLIGENT, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE? I'm going to go with beautiful, because I've only just finished saying that I think I'm already pretty intelligent. Of course intelligence is more important that physical beauty every time, because looks fade with age, but also with age comes life experience, and therefore intelligence.
IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN, DO YOU WANT THEM TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME CHILDHOOD AS YOURS? Absolutely not. There are so many things I will do differently with my children than what my parents did. My parents and I have never been close, and although it doesn't bother me nearly so much now as it used to, it would have been nice to have grown up knowing I could talk to my parents and not be brushed off. I'd like my children to know that I love them and that I want to know if they're having any problems so I can help them. Of course, I suppose I've been pretty lucky on the material and money side of things, lack of money has never been an issue in my family, I go to a good, private school and have had the opportunity for a very good education. My parents have been married for 31 years and my home environment has always been stable, if a little cold at times. By no means did I have an unhappy childhood, I'd just like my children to have a better, closer relationship with me that I did/do with my parents.
WHAT ONE THING ABOUT MEN DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND? Why on earth the majority of them seem to think that women are complicated and "out to get them" to some extent. We're just as human as you are! We only play mind games and become high-maintenance because you expect us to be!
IF YOU WON $50 MILLION IN THE LOTTERY AND COULDN'T SPEND IT ON YOURSELF OR YOUR FAMILY, HOW WOULD YOU SPEND IT? On my friends and on charities. $50 million is a lot of money and would go a very long way, although it's nothing compared to that Irish (?) woman who just won over $200 million. Personally I think it's wrong to have prizes that big, why could't it have had ten people win $20 million each?
WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE? Natural rhythm, so dancing in shows wouldn't be a nightmare/comedy, whichever way you look at it! So I've managed to bluff my way through acting and singing, but either you can dance or you can't, there isn't nearly so much grey area there.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENT IN A RELATIONSHIP? Friendship. That goes for romantic relationships too. If you're not friends you don't have much of a base to build the rest of your relationship on. Trust is important too, but that goes together with friendship.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF TODAY'S TEACHERS? To inspire people to learn so that when they get older and have to be responsible for their own learning, they know what to do.
WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONFIDENCE AND CONCEIT? Confidence is when you use your abilities to help build other people up (eg you might be a good singer so you become a music teacher), and conceit is when you flaunt your ability (supposide ability) because you want to make other people feel jealous and insecure because they're not as good an you. Conceited people are seldom confident, if they were they wouldn't need to show off to try and make other people like or admire them.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO YOUR SISTER IF SHE ASKED YOU TO BE A SURROGATE MOTHER FOR HER? Since I'm an only child (I have half-siblings, including a sister in her 20's, but I've never met them) I'll go for the next closest thing, which is my best friend. I'd do it. As simple as that. I'd want someone to do it for me if I wasn't able to have children, so I'd do it for someone else if I had the opportunity. How you could possibly say no is a mystery to me. As for my random half-sister somewhere in the world, I suppose I'd do it for her too, if she needed it.
WHEN YOU SEE PHOTOGRAPHS OF YOURSELF, WHAT IS YOUR REACTION? I usually either laugh or cringe. I don't really like having my photo taken, because I don't see myself as being that photogenic, but some are ok, like ones where everyone in them is doing something stupid, or wearing some sort of odd costume. They're all right.
IF A FRIEND TOLD YOU THEY WERE HAVING AN AFFAIR, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER TO THEM? Carefully think about the situation and work out which partner they really want to be with. Then break up with the other one. Either way they're going to end up hurting someone, but that's what happens when you have an affair in the first place.
IF YOU COULD BE FAMOUS, IN WHAT WAY WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Famous for doing something positive and substantial, as opposed to being famous for being married to a famous or wealthy man, or being the daughter of a celebrity, or something else like that, because those people don't inspire respect in their own right.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE KIND OF ANIMAL? WHY? Something cute and furry, like my cat, or something that can do something cool, like an axolotyle, which is the juvenile form of a salamander and can regrow limbs if it loses them. I've always wanted one, but my mother is sort of grossed out by them. I don't really blame her, they're a bit scary looking.
DO YOU PREFER SWEET, SPICY, SALTY, OR SOUR FOODS? WHAT DOES THIS TELL PEOPLE ABOUT YOU? Salty or sweet, and it tells people that I have a sweet tooth, but I also like salt and vinegar chips! Hehe!
WHAT DO YOU FEEL CONTRIBUTES MORE TO PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: SUCCESS OR FAILURE? Failure, because it teaches you not to take your successes for granted.
ARE YOU A GOOD LEADER? WHY OR WHY NOT? No, I am not a good leader. I probably wouldn't be a bad one, but I don't have the confidence to get people to listen to me most of the time.
WHICH HISTORICAL FIGURE DO YOU MOST IDENTIFY WITH? WHY? Judy Garland. She should have been happy, but she never really was. She was wealthy, talented and good looking, but she was so lonely and depressed and on diet pills from the age of 13.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIE? WHY? I'm quite a Disney fan! The only movies I don't like are all the spin-offs. How on earth can you do a sequel to Cinderella!? It's obviously they're just trying to profit as much as they can, but it just cheapens the whole thing. Disneyland in Tokyo is amazing though, We spent an entire day there and we still didn't have nough time! It's obviously why they have Disney hotels and week-long passes! I'd quite like to have my wedding there, but I can see it being very expensive and difficult to organise. Lol.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST RESPONSIBILITY AS A FRIEND? To be honest and to always be there, even when you don't want to be. Treat your friends the way you want them to treat you and it'll be all good.
WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO YOUNG MEN TODAY? In NZ we have a real problem with boy racers, which are young men, mostly in their 20's, who drive around in cars with modified engines (that are usually very unsafe), pour diesel all over the road and race each other off at traffic lights. These young men seem to think that they are cool, and that young women will be attracted to them and their fast "cool" cars, when, in reality, most people realise that the men are morons, with no respect for their own lives, the lives of their friends and spectators, or for the road, which other drivers have to share. I realise I sound like a grandma saying that, but I couldn't care less. My message to young men is that if you behave sensibly and drive responsibly, people, particularly young women, are far more likely to have respect for you.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE TO A FRIEND? Never underestimate the power of talking to someone you trust about...anything! I never realised how helpful this was until I started doing it. Of course I don't tell my friends everything about my life, but I tell them a lot more than a used to, and sometimes it really helps to get an objective perspective on your problems.
DO YOU MAKE MISTAKES? Of course, it's something all humans do, because none of us are perfect, or psychic. Sometimes we're in a situation where, through no fault of our own, we don't know what to do or say, so we often do the first thing that comes to mind, and unfortunately it's not always the best thing to do.
IF YOU COULD ADD SOMETHING TO YOUR SCHOOL'S CURRICULUM, WHAT WOULD YOU ADD? WHY? Courses about how to look after children. Especially since I'm at an all-girls school, but guys, a good percentage of whom are eventually going to be fathers, need to be taught how to change nappies and other baby things too. I don't know, maybe that's a lame thing to add, it's not the only thing I'd like to add, it's just the first thing that came to mind.
IF YOU HAD ONE EXTRA PAID DAY-OFF EACH WEEK TO DO VOLUNTEER WORK, WHERE WOULD YOU VOLUNTEER? WHY? I'd like to volunteer with Youthline. I'm considering doing social work at uni next year, and apparently that would be good experience, but I've always been keen to do it anyway, it's just something I think would be really worthwhile. I'd do it whether my day off was paid or not.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT? Interest, lust and obsession yes, but not love. I think love is more of an action than a feeling. You can't love someone until you get to know them, and when you love someone it's better to show them than tell them.
ARE YOU A TRADITIONAL PERSON OR A MODERN PERSON? You mean you haven't already guessed!? I'm traditional, at least I think I am. Of course I'm not archaic, I don't believe that "women should be dressed in white, just like all the other domestic appliances"- (quote some racing car driver who needs to be either shot or dragged into the 21st century!), but I believe that sex outside of marriage or another committed, long term relatonship is wrong. In the abortion thing, I call myself pro-choice because it is the woman's body, so it should be up to her what she does with it, and it's her who is going to have to live with her decision, but personally I'd never do it. The only reasons I'd ever have an abortion would be if my life or the baby's life would be in danger otherwise. Even if I was raped, I think (at least now) that I'd still have the baby, and have it adopted out. It doesn't seem right to terminate a pregnancy when there are so many couples out there who would love the chance to adopt a baby because they can't have their own children. Of course I realise that if I were raped, I could very well feel completely differently afterwards. I can also see why women do have abortions though, especially if they're raped, or very young, or if they're not in a position to bring up a baby (although then the adoption thing applies). Yes. Traditional. Mostly. Homosexuality is certainly not wrong, although same sex marriage should not be legal. Commitment ceremonies and civil unions ABSOLUTELY (and they are in NZ), their love is as valid as anyone else's, but marriage is something traditional that should be reserved for a man and a woman. IF YOU COULD WAKE UP TOMORROW HAVING GAINED ANY ONE ABILITY OR QUALITY, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Either the ability to solve people's problems and sort out arguments, or to see people for who they really are, instead of just who they want to show you. Of course I realise I might not always want to know who they really are, it might freak me out, but I think I'd feel a lot more...secure, knowing...the full story.
ARE YOU A ROLE MODEL? WHY OR WHY NOT? Yes, and hopefully I'm a good one! Lol, "everyone has a purpose in life, even if it's just to serve as a bad example!"
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MARKED CHARACTERISTIC? WHY? Physically it'd probably be my hair. It's as curly as hair can get, but it's down to my waist. People are usually amazed when they see how long I've let it grow. They ask me "doesn't it get really really knotty and annoying?" Yes, it does, but I've had it long for most of my life, the last time I had it cut above my shoulders was when I was 9, and I grew it back because it looked horrible, so I'm used to getting knots out and I have it down to a pretty fine art! Lots of conditioner and a fine toothed comb. I put conditioner through it every morning in the shower and then if it's a school day, I either plait it (it isn't curly then, obviously) or ties it up in the ponytail. If it's not a school day then I'll just leave it out and it'll curl up and do it's own thing. I've only just started liking having curly hair, probably because I own a hair straightener, so I can have straight(ish) hair if I want it, but it takes almost two hours to straighten, so as you might have guessed, I don't bother very often!
DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS? One cat, Poppy, who is the most spoiled animal I know. We got her from the Cat's Protection League about 5 years ago who our other cat died. She's really really smart, she's worked out how to open doors by jumping up and swinging on the doorhandle. It scared the crap out of us the first time she did it, since there was just this thudding noise and we had no idea what it was! Sadly she hasn't figured out how to shut the doors yet, which is a pain in winter. Lol.
WHERE HAVE YOU TRAVELED? WHEN? Yes, quite a lot, Australia twice, when I was 7 and 9; Hawaii and Fiji when I was 10; Tahiti when I was 14 and Japan last year when I was 16, also lots of places around NZ. Go back to the homepage to see more stuff about Japan.
