Plus-Sized Coccoon or Polish Sweater

*NOTE:  This is not my original pattern and I don't take credit for it. I simply enlarged it for plus-size.  It is a pattern that has been circulating for years before there ever was such a thing as the internet, and I have never seen a name attached to it to give credit.

Worsted Weight Yarn
Size K hook
Gauge:  3 dc = 1 inch, 2 rows in pattern stitch =1 inch.

For sizes 1-2X with changes for 3-4X in parentheses

Row 1:  Beg chain 115 (135).  Sc in 7th chain from hook. *Chain 3, skip 3 chains, sc in next chain. Repeat from * across. Turn

Row 2:  Chain 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout).  Work 3 more dc in first chain 3 loop.  Work 3 dc in each chain 3 loop across. In last chain 3 loop, work 4 dc. Turn.

Rows 3:  Chain 1, sc in top of last dc.  *Chain 3, sc in space between 3 dc clusters.Repeat from * across. Chain 3, sc in top of beginning chain 3.  Turn.

Rows4-40 (44): Repeat Rows 2 and 3 alternatively, ending with Row 2. At end of Row 40 (44) do not turn.

Bring up edge of work, (right side out) continue with 4 dcs in first loop of original chain loop, 3 dcs in next loop, across, working 4 dc in last loop. Join with a slip st in first dc row. You will now work in rounds, (do not turn)

Rnd 41(45): Work chain 3. Sc in each ch st around, join with sl st in first chain 3 loop.

Rnd 42:(46): Chain 3 to count as dc, 3 dcs in each loop around. Slip stitch in top of chain 3. (Remember first ch 3 counts as dc in all dc rows)

Rnd 43 (47): Work chain 4 loops, around join with slip stitch in first ch 4 loop. Join.

Rnd 44 (48): 4 dc in each chain loop around. Join.

Rnd 45-46(49-50): Repeat previous 2 rows.

Rnd 47 (51): Work chain 5 loops around, join with slip stitch in first ch 5 loop. Join.

Rnd 48 (52): 5 dc in each chain loop around. Join.

Rnd 49-50 (53-54): Repeat previous 2 rows.

Rnd 51 (55): Work chain 6 loops around, join with slip stitch in first ch 6 loop. Join.

Rnd 52 (56): 6 dc in each chain loop around. Join.

Rnd 53-54 (57-58):  Repeat previous 2 rows.

Rnd 55 (59): Work chain 7 loops around, join with slip stitch in first chain 7 loop.  Join.

Rnd 56 (60): 7 dc in each chain loop around.  Join.

57-58 (61-62): Repeat previous 2 rows.  Join.

Row 59 (63):   Repeat Rnd 55 (59)

Row 60 (64): In all loops around, work (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, 1 sc). Join w/ slip stitch to first sc.

Sleeves:

Rnd 1:  At bottom of arm hole attach yarn and work 3 dc around each dc post. Join in first dc.

Rnd 2-40: Chain 3, sc after 3 dc group to end. Work in this manner until you have 20 rows of dc. End on dc row.

Rnd 41:  Sc in each dc around. Join.

Rnd 42:  Work sc dec around.  Join.  Fasten off.
