Battle Without a Master Ball
You're probably already wishing you had a Master Ball by now, considering all the money you had to spend on Hyper Potions and Ultra Balls.  There are two different strategies, one for those of you who have already gone through the "Arrrrrrrghhhhh-I-was-so-close" torture of tracking down Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Latias, or Latios; and one for those of you who had a Pokemon like Lugia just sitting out in the open, waiting for you.  Good luck!

Okay, you've done all that work, and you've gotten this far.  Make sure your Sleep Attacking Pokemon is first in your party, because there's no time to switch!
Be Warned!  Your Pokemon could, and probably will, run away several times, forcing you to track it down again!  "Oh no!" I hear you cry.  I know, but unless you have a Master Ball, there's no way to avoid it.  Moves like Scary Face - which prevent a Pokemon from running - may look tempting, but the Legendary Pokemon know Roar, and can escape at any time.

When your Pokemon FINALLY appears, use your Sleep Attack and REALLY hope it works!  If it fails, you'll have to track down that Pokemon again!  Talk about major frustration!  Once the Pokemon is snoozing - hit it with all you've got, but remember, you only have six turns MAXIMUM to do this.  Once you've gotten it's HP to drop to the red, don't take chances of knocking it out.  Pull out your False Swipe Pokemon (False Swipe always leaves the opponent with at least 1 HP, making it a very handy attack) and bring it's HP down to 1.  When it's HP is at 1, start chucking Ultra Balls at it!  Cross your fingers the first one works, because I've found that chances of it capturing the Pokemon become slimmer with each Ball you throw.  If it works, congratulations!  You have a brand new Legendary Pokemon!  If not, and your Pokemon wakes up and runs away, well, all you've got is time and a bunch of Max Repels . . .

Be thankful your Pokemon just sits there waiting for you!  You don't have to go through the trouble of tracking down your Pokemon, and you don't have to worry about it running away!  That's good, but you're still in for a long, tough battle.

Once you approach your Legendary Pokemon, pull out your Sleep Attacking Pokemon.  When your opponent is snoozing, you don't have to worry about being attacked by the Legendary Pokemon's super powerful attacks.  Once it's asleep, hit it with all you've got!  Don't overdo it, though.  You don't want to risk knocking it out and having to start over again!  Bring it's HP down to the red.  Then, pull out your False Swipe Pokemon (if you don't have a False Swipe - maybe you're playing Red, Blue, or Yellow - bring a Pokemon at a lower level so you can chisel down it's HP, without worrying about KO-ing it)  Once it's HP is down to 1 (or as low as you can get it in Red, Yellow, and Blue) start chucking Ultra Balls at it.  Try to get it the first time, though.  I've found that the more Balls you throw at it, the slimmer your chances of catching it are.  Once it works, congratulations!  You have a brand new Legendary Pokemon!

NOTE TO ALL: Nintendo basicly says that it's impossible to capture any Legendary Pokemon in a Ball less than the Ultra Ball.  It's not true!  Yes, that's right!  I recently captured the Legendary Pokemon, Kyogre, in Pokemon Sapphire using one of those inexpensive Great Balls!  I weakened it to 1 HP; Paralyzed it; tried, and failed, about twenty times to put it to sleep; had five of my well-trained Pokemon KO'd, and had one barely trained Jigglypuff left; chucked what had to be fifteen unsucessful Ultra Balls at it; tossed a last-ditch Net Ball (which is good for Water Type Pokemon) at it, which was useless; and right when I thought I had lost it, and had to use my precious Master Ball (which I was saving for Latios or Rayquaza), I threw one last spare Great Ball at it, and caught it!  I was so shocked I nearly fell from where I was sitting!  My point?  Ultra Balls don't always work!  I wonder if Mewtwo can be caught in a Pokeball . . . . . .

Don't give up, no matter how hard it gets.  Remember, the Legendary Pokemon are worth the effort.
