I think that one of the best memories from my childhood is when my dad used to take me to dig for dinosaur bones in the mountains near my house.  He knew we couldn’t find any, but he took me anyway.  We would wake up early and I would get my little shovel and then we drove about a half hour to get to our spot.  The mountains were just gravel and rock with some streams running through them.  There was nothing to dig.  We always gave up after about 10 minutes and just walked around having fun and talking.  I loved to run around and play in the streams and find the cool lizards that were common around there.  Looking back on it, I don’t think I fully appreciated that.  I never knew how out of the way my dad went to make me happy.  I look back on that as my fondest memory for two reasons.  It wasn’t just me digging for dinosaur bones and playing in the mountains, it was a special time between me and my dad.
