Failure Is Greater Than Success

If you have never failed, how do you know when you succeed?  Without failure there is no such thing as success because there is nothing to compare too.  It can also be said that failure is inevitable, so minor failures along the way will prevent one big downfall at the end.  Failure is a necessary part of life.

Everybody fails.  Nobody is perfect.  From some of the smartest people to ever live such as Einstein, to the common street bum, everyone has had his or her share of failure.  This is what life is all about though, how you deal with your failures.  If you learn from your failures to improve upon yourself, then you are successful.  If you don’t learn then you are a failure.  Also, if you never fail, then you haven’t pushed yourself enough.  Every part of life is based upon poking and prodding at the limits of what can be achieved.  In this process, some roads lead to failure.  No one will ever be able to chose all the right roads from the start, so if you don’t fail, you haven’t experienced everything.  Now I’m not saying that you should aim to fail, but I am saying that it shouldn’t be a fear.  Failure is integrated into every aspect of life whether we like it or not.

Without failure we will never fully appreciate success.  Without anything to compare to, success can never seem as good.  If you have never failed a test, you can never really appreciate an A+.  If you are always successful then you learn to have that as your standard and it becomes something you take for granted.  People who fail are generally happier.  Although they may be sad at their failures, they will be much more pleased for a smaller amount of success than a person who only experiences success.  This brings on another issue of what is success?  If you are happy then you are successful.  So if you “fail” but it makes you happier in the long run, then you are a success.  Failure brings appreciation, appreciation brings happiness, and happiness is success.

Don’t be afraid of the big bad word, failure.  It is just a word with a negative stigma attached to it, but no real value.  Failure is part of life; there is no way around it.  There is no reason to get all worked up about it, it just happens.  When you fail you should just realize that this small fraction of ill fortune is really just part of a big picture of success.
