DECIDING ON THE BEST BREED FOR YOU

Of course, I think the Lhasa Apso is WONDERFUL, but they are definitely not the dog for everyone.
Go to local dog shows or watch Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on TV the first of February on USA.  Or you can go to the library and get a book with all dog breeds listed and decide which ones you would like to research further.
RESEARCH YOUR CANDIDATES!  Thoroughly research your candidates.  Discover what your choice was originally bred to do.  For instance, the fabulous Border Collie was bred to work long, hard days herding sheep.  This is not a dog for a couch potato like me.  They need mental and physical activity to be happy.  Deny them this and you will have a major 4-legged destruction machine on your hands.  So many dogs that wind up in shelters do so because someone did not find out what they could expect of the breed they purchased.
You can find books on specific breeds at pet stores, book stores or the library.
If you can afford it subscribe to Dog Fancy or Dog World.  It seems to me that Dog Fancy is geared more to the pet owner and Dog World to breeders.
An excellent book to let you know a little about each breed is Know Your Pure Bred Puppy www.yourpurebredpuppy.com.  It tells you briefly about health, temperament, exercise needs, etc.
PLEASE DONT PICK A DOG ONLY BY ITS PHYSICAL APPEARANCE!
