PURCHASING YOUR PUPPY

Tell the breeder you are looking for a pet quality puppy.  Expect to pay $250.00 and up, depending on the breed.
Dont pick a terribly aggressive or a terribly shy puppy.  Either on could become aggressive unless you are an experience owner with obedience knowledge.
Find out about vaccinations.  Your puppy has most likely already had its first round.  If you dont have a good veterinarian, ask other dog owners about their vets.  Just like breeders, all vets are necessarily good.  I went through about four before I found the one I use now.  Take your puppy to the veterinarian to be examined shortly after purchase as most breeders will exchange puppies if yours is found to have some serious problem.
Buy a pet owners veterinary guide.  You will find it invaluable.

Before and after you buy your puppy READ, READ, READ!  I am horrified at how many pet owners know absolutely nothing about the dog they own or its training or healthcare.  If you want a well-behaved, well-adjusted dog you have to know how to raise it that way.  Doing stupid things like hitting, yelling or pushing a dogs face into urine or feces can ruin it for life.  Dont rely on the way Mom & Dad raised their dog 20+ years ago.  More and more is learned about animal behavior every day.  Keep up with the times!
ADOPT & SAVE A LIFE!

Last, but not least, if you are so inclined, go to a shelter and save a life.  It will be more of a mystery package as specifics like size, health and temperament cannot be predicted, but mutts are just as wonderful as purebreds!  If you adopt an adult dog, you may have a few kinks to work out, but if you are patient and read and get help when needed, you will have the best, most faithful friend you could ever desire!
