| Buddy's mom died. Buddy was inherited by her daughter who didn't care enough to get him medical treatment in his old age or to retrieve him from the shelter after he strayed. He is probably 8-12 years old and has poor eyesight and possibly has Cushings or hypothroidism. Buddy is also a very happy fellow and a very lucky little guy! I happened to see Buddy at the shelter when I was there with my bird rescue group for an adoption clinic. I knew that he would never be adopted when there were so many young, perfectly healthy dogs there. I also knew that at his age and with his short nose he would never last through the summer in an outside kennel run in the heat. So I did the "stupid" and adopted him in hopes that I could find him a home. I couldn't take him home myself because I had 3 other dogs who would probably not have been nice to him and I didn't feel he could manage well in a pack situation being old and partially blind. Thanks to Kansas City Animal Talk (a local email group made up of animal rescue people and shelters and No More Homeless Pets in KC, the coalition that created this email group), within 3 days of Buddy's being euthanized by the shelter, I found two saints named Tina and Beth who are volunteers with Help Humane Society in Raymore, Missouri. Tina contacted me and agreed to take Buddy even though the Shih Tzu rescue she contacted could not take him. Her friend Beth is fostering little Buddy with other blind dogs and hopefully Buddy will finally get a Forever Home. Isn't it sad that people could abandoned a little guy like this who'd done his job by giving unconditional love for years, only to be abandoned when he needed some help. I hope everyone who sees this page teaches their own children and everyone else they know the duty we have to take care of our elders, whether they be human or canine. Good luck little Buddy & God bless the rescue workers! You can find all of the organizations in pink on my links page in the very near future. |
