SC GARDENING SOCIETIES AND CLUBS: South Carolina Native Plant Society - did you know that the vast majority of today's common annuals and perennials originated in the lowcountry of SC? Learn more! Charleston Lowcountry Rose Society - learn the ins and outs of rose gardening in SC.
OUR FAVORITE SC RETAILERS: Ashdown Roses - the best nursery for antique, climbing and landscape roses. Amazing! Pete's Herbs - our local lowcountry herb wizard. If you want it, Pete's got it! Smith's Concrete - SC's best source for all your garden cement products: benches, fountains, planters, statuary, etc. Tokonoma Bonsai - Summerville's own bonsai specialist. Hollow Tree Nursery - out in the boonies, this one is well worth the 5-10 mile drive to check it out. 843-688-4352.
OUR FAVORITE SC DESTINATIONS: Bee City - more than just bees: honey, pollen, lip balm, skin cream, candles, and figurines, all made from bee products; field trips for schools and church groups too! Mepkin Abbey - see the Mepkin Abbey Church and the Nancy Bryan Luce Gardens. Eggs, garden compost (the best!), books and tapes may be purchased at the Reception Center. Charleston Tea Plantation - the only working tea plantation in the whole USA! Middleton Place - National Historic Landmark and carefully preserved 18th-century plantation that has survived revolution, Civil War, and earthquake. Tour the Gardens, the House Museum, and the Plantation Stableyards. Francis Marion National Forest - boasts a variety of recreation opportunities: canoeing, kayaking, motorcycling, fishing, and hunting. Francis Beidler Forest - the largest virgin blackwater cypress-tupelo swamp forest left in the world! Summerville, SC - history and businesses of the place affectionately called "Flower Town". Summerville, SC - tourist website of our hometown.
