Shatters
Looking in the mirror
I see something starng back at me
A face troubled by books
read, but far too vast for them to fully comprehend
books of horror and pain and misery
eyes full knowing of what the world can see
eyes staring back at me
dark eyes knowing what death may be
and they can never remember a happy time
only what they have read
Some say we are born good but then corrupted
and are always good by nature
but what the dark eyes see is only the madness
the troubled waters of the earth
Hitler, Stalin, Milosovic
all gone now
but eyes do not fain forget what they see
what they read, what they intake
no, they musn't
and to forget is to falter
to be overthrown
and these dark eyes
looking at me
they now, they know
all too well
the depths of the world entire
the horror, the pain, the misery
and then the eyes disappear
the mirror shatters and breaks away
looking down a thousand eyes stare back
at the sad face
the eyes will not forget
nor falter
