Start Up Sequence And Servicing

Here's just some notes that make help new SF2 owners. It's from e-mails I've sent out concerning specific aspects of the game, figured it was time to gather it up in one place.

Start Up Sequence

Chances are you've got a dead or weak display and have no idea what's going on at the beginning of the game. The plunger sequence on SF2 is a little weird, I was confused about what was going on until my DMD was replaced. So I'll give you a rundown. Chun Li is sitting there holding a bracelet and making throwing motions at a dartboard, you want to release the ball plunger about 1 second after she says "shoot". If you time it correctly, the ball will pass through the opto when her arm is extended.

Then, the ball rolls down the wireform to the top left corner and lands in the saucer. At that point, you should hear the announcer/M. Bison say, "Use The Flipper" and a strobe light near the upper flipper will flash a few times, and the ball is then kicked out of the saucer. I'd say that ball stays in that saucer for 5 seconds before the game kicks it out.

To get your skill shot points, you have to then hit the bracelet target which is right next to the Ryu/Ken shot.

If your machine isn't kicking out the ball, you need to check the switch on that saucer in the top corner. Flip up the playfield and check the switch. Be sure that the contacts are clean and that they will touch when a ball is in the saucer. There may be a two pinned connector on the wires running to that switch. If so, unplug and replug the connector a couple times.

When I first got my machine, a ball had sat in that saucer while it was in storage and bent the switch contacts so far down that they weren't working properly. Just a little adjusting with some needle nose pliers and I haven't had any issues since.

Tilting The Playfield So That It Stands Straight Up

Yes, you can tilt Gottlieb System3 playfields all the way up, but it's a bit of a pain. What you have to do is lift the playfield out of the cabinet about 6-10 inches, and then hold onto the front edge and pull it towards you. The playfield will slide out about 10 inches, and you'll feel it fall into a slot on the metal rails it sits on. Then you can lift it straight up and have it stay in that position.

Replacing Playfield Lights

Don't try replacing bulbs from the top of the playfield.. you can use a 1/4" nut driver to unscrew the lamps from the bottom and easily replace the bulbs.
