The most insulted and underappreciated pin ever made.
Reasons Why People Don't Like SF2
Gottlieb made crap boards in the 80s, the operators never forgave them, and the collectors that worship operators picked up the bad attitude
Video games killed pinball, pinball collectors are still pissy about it, and SF2 is based on a popular video game
Even though a good 70% of WPC games are undeniably terrible, it's "cool" to like Williams games over all else
Gottlieb System3 is a much more reliable and robust boardset - but Williams didn't think of it!
Stupid Things I've Heard About SF2 (& THE TRUTH)
"It's shallow!" - the gameplay is fairly linear and you must complete a set series of shots to score any points. Williams players like to be rewarded for any crap shot that doesn't drain between the flippers. This game clearly lights the shots that can be made at any given time and takes a little aiming skill
"The gamplay is slow!" - another idiotic complaint. You have a set series of shots, the game takes a break everytime you complete one of the shots and gives you a chance to select a reward. We're back to that fundamental issue of Williams gameplay & players - just pound the flippers like a monkey and watch the ball fly around. The game caters to these monkeys a little by giving them little piddly awards for making the wrong shot.
"The car crush sucks!". I admit that this isn't the most spectacular "toy" in the world, but I have yet to play a game with a truly awesome toy. This one is about as good as any and ties in very well with the SF2 theme.
"The art/music/sound/dot animations suck!" This is the absolute stupidest series of complaints I've heard about this game. The backglass is a little odd, but not bad at all (Williams Flash anyone??). The playfield artwork is more or less stock Capcom drawings of the SF2 figures - cartoony and bright. The music and sound effects are lifted almost straight from the game - with some custom voice work and song remixes here and there. What do the flipper monkeys expect? Animations are very nice renderings of the characters in action - another ridiculous complaint.
SF2 is a fun and attractive pinball machine with a lot of shots!
This machine caters to those that aren't familiar with pinball by clearly lighting the shots to be made! (something that confuses most "hardcore players")
