Chapter 2

Casey woke up first. "Where… where am I?" he said, groggily. He tried to get up, but he was chained to a pole. Sheridan was right next to him, still unconscious. There was no way he could get out of the chains, so he tried to wake Sheridan up. "Sher? Sheridan, wake up."
Sheridan slowly opened her eyes. "Where am I?" she asked. She looked around and saw Casey. "Who are you?"
"Casey. Remember?"
"Um… no," she said, confused. "I don't remember anything."
"Oh, my God," Casey said. "This can't be happening."

~Surf Central, 4 hours later~
"Sara, come on, it's going to be okay," Luis said, soothingly.
"Where could they have gone? He wouldn't leave me like that," she said, sobbing. "Luis, we have to find them!"
"I know, Sara. I know. But you have to calm down."
"I can't calm down! Casey means the world to me and I don't know how I'm going to survive without him! He could be dead!"
"Don't jump to conclusions. There is a possibility that he could be dead, but I don't want to assume the worst. We've already sent out search teams to look for them. They're Sunset Beach's best. And I know how you feel about Casey. Sheridan… she's the love of my life and I don't know what I'm going to do without her. That's why we've got to find them. Now, come on, go get some rest, and I'll keep you updated. We're going to get through this together."
"Thank you, Luis. I would hate to go through this alone."
"So would I, Sara, so would I." They hugged and Sara went upstairs. Luis flicked on the radio in hopes of any news. Instead, he heard a song.

Monday night, and I feel so alone
I count the hours, they go so slow
I know the sound of your voice can save my soul
City lights, the streets are gold
Look out my window to the world below
Move so fast, but feel so cold, and I'm all alone
Don't let me die
I'm losing my mind
Baby, just give me a sign

And now that you're gone,
Just wanna be with you
And I can't go on,
I wanna be with you
Wanna be with you

I can't sleep, I'm up all night
Through these tears, I try to smile
I know the touch of your hand can save my life
Don't let me down
Come to me now
I've got to be with you somehow

And now that you're gone,
Just wanna be with you
And I can't go on,
I wanna be with you
Wanna be with you

Don't let me down… Come to me now
I've got to be with you somehow

And now that you're gone,
Who am I without you now?
And I can't go on,
Just wanna be with you

And now that you're gone,
Just wanna be with you
And I can't go on,
I wanna be with you
Wanna be with you…
Just wanna be with you

Luis sat down, and for the first time since he thought his father had died, cried.

Sara looked out her window, to the soft twinkling lights of the city. "Casey… please, God, let Casey be safe." She reached over and picked up a picture off the shelf. It was a picture of her and Casey. "Oh, Case… I love you so much." She kissed the picture, held it close, and cried. "Come back, Case, come back for us." She looked down at her stomach. "Don't you worry, your daddy will be back. I promise."

Show me the meaning of being lonely…

So many words for the broken heart
It's hard to see in a crimson love
So hard to breathe; Walk with me and maybe
Nights of light so soon become
Wild and free; I could feel the sun
Your every wish will be done, they tell me

Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with?
Tell me why I can't be there where you are
There's something missing in my heart

Life goes on as it never ends
Eyes of stone observe the trends
They never say forever gaze
If only guilty roads to an endless love
There's no control, are you with me now?
Your every wish will be done, they tell me

Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with?
Tell me why I can't be there where you are
There's something missing in my heart

There's nowhere to run; I have no place to go
Surrender my heart, body and soul
How can it be you're asking me to feel
the things you never show?

You are missing in my heart…
Tell me why can't I be there where you are…

"Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" is by the Backstreet Boys.

"You don't remember anything?" Casey asked.
"I just told you that. I don't know what happened, but my mind is just a big blank. Can you tell me who I am?" Sheridan pleaded.
"Okay, but I've only known you for a few months. You are Sheridan Crane, my second cousin. Oh, by the way, I'm Casey. Casey Mitchum."
"Hi, Casey. I'm glad I'm not here alone." Sheridan smiled. "Okay. I know my name now. Can you tell me more about my family and friends? And how I got here?"
"Well, I don't know how we got here. All I know is that we were kidnapped and that you were hit by a 2 x 4, that's why you can't remember anything, probably. Um… your family I don't really know about, since you didn't really talk about them. Except Ethan. I think he's your nephew or something. But he's only two years younger than you."

"Okay… where are we?"
"I have absolutely no idea. For all I know, we could be in South America, but I come from Sunset Beach, California. You lived there too, but you used to live in Harmony, Maine. And then… there's Luis."
"Luis?"
"He's your fiancé. Look at your hand." Sheridan looked down at her hands and saw a ring. "My… my engagement ring…" Suddenly something came flooding back to her.

::Flashback::
"Sheridan, I love you so much. You bring so much happiness to my life, and I can't imagine my life without you. I know we've had our share of obstacles, but we've overcome them all. Our love is strong enough to challenge anything. So… I ask you this question." Luis got down on one knee and presented a simple diamond ring. "Sheridan Crane, will you do me the honor of being my wife?"
Sheridan gasped. "I… I don't know what to say… I guess I am going to be the first one married after all." She smiled, and there were a few laughs around the room. Then she looked back down at Luis. "Yes, Luis, I would love to be your wife. I love you more than anything in this world." At that, Luis picked her up and swung her around (you know what I mean, right?), then set her down and kissed her. "Sher, you have made me the happiest man alive."
"No," Casey called out, "I'm the happiest man alive!" Everyone laughed, then clapped for Luis and Sheridan. "You know, Luis," Sheridan said to her now fiancé, as they walked down the stage, "if you ever took your love away from me, I'd be down on my knees." Luis just kissed her forehead and said, "Me too, Sher. Me too."

::Reality::

Sheridan gasped. "I… I remember…"
"What do you remember?" Casey asked, excited.
"I remember Luis proposing to me. He's pretty cute, you know."
Casey laughed. "That's right. And he loves you very much." Then Sheridan looked at Casey's hands, bound by chains. She saw a glimmer and then realized it was a wedding band. "You… you got married, didn't you? That's where Luis proposed!"
"Yes, I am married now, Sher. But," Casey said, becoming sad, "she doesn't know where I am and I know it's killing her."
"She? Who is she?"
"My wife. Sara. She's your best friend. Or at least, she's supposed to be your best friend."
"Okay. Sara. Let me get this straight. You're Casey, and your wife is Sara, and my fiancé is Luis. I have a nephew named Ethan, and I grew up in Harmony, Maine."
"Actually, no, you grew up in Paris. But you were born in Harmony and lived there before you moved to Sunset Beach."
"Okay. I think I'm getting this now. Can you tell me more?"
"I'll try." Casey and Sheridan continued to talk about her past.

Ethan Crane was looking around for something. Ever since Gwen had left him for Chuck, and Theresa left, he was miserable. He decided to go down to the basement and look for something to cheer him up.
Ethan went to the door and tried to open it, but it was locked. So he grabbed the key from its secret hiding place and unlocked the door. There he discovered…

"Sheridan?" Ethan asked.
"Huh? Oh. Are you Ethan?" she wondered. Casey looked confused.
"Yes… What are you doing here in the basement?"
"Hold on. Basement? Where are we?"
"You're in the Crane Mansion."
"We're in Harmony?" Casey asked Ethan.
"Um, yeah," Ethan responded. "You are…?"
"Oh, I'm Casey Mitchum. Sheridan's cousin."
Ethan smiled. "Right. I remember. Hold on. You're in chains? What happened?"
"All I know is that we were kidnapped in Sunset Beach and we woke up here. But what are we doing in the Crane Mansion? I bet Sheridan's father has something to do with this."
"Grandfather Alistair? I don't know…"
"Ethan, please, can I ask you a favor? Can you please get us up to your room without anyone noticing? I need to use a phone."
"Okay, Casey. No one is home right now so… but how are you going to get out of here?"
"I need a key." Just then Ethan remembered that there was another smaller key on the basement keyring. He tried it on Casey's chains and they fell to the ground. The three of them rushed upstairs to Ethan's room, where Casey picked up the phone and dialed.

Sara woke up and immediately felt around her. "Casey? Where are you…?" Then she remembered that Casey wasn't there to hold her while she was sleeping. "Oh, Case… where did you go?"
Downstairs, Luis was having a wonderful dream about his and Sheridan's wedding, when all of a sudden, the phone rang. He grabbed it.
"Hello?" he asked, hoping it would be Sheridan.
"Luis?" a voice asked.
"CASEY?" he responded. The sound of his voice immediately jolted him awake.
"It's me, Luis. And Sheridan's with me."
"Oh, my gosh! She's safe. Thank God. Can I talk to her?"
"Um… not exactly."
"Why? What's wrong?"
"She… she has amnesia, Luis. All she can remember is you proposing to her."
Luis smiled slightly, then it vanished. "How did she get amnesia?"
"We were kidnapped, and she was hit over the head with a 2 x 4. When she came to, she couldn't remember a thing."
"Oh, my lord… Oh, Sara's fine, by the way. Just really stressed out over your being gone."
"Oh. Can I talk to her?"
"Of course." Luis turned and Sara was descending the stairs. "Luis, hi. Um… for me?" Sara asked, as Luis motioned for her to come and take the phone. "I'm not really in a mood for talking to anyone," she said.
"Just take the phone. You won't regret it."
"Oh, fine." Sara took the phone and said, "Hello?"
"Hey, beautiful."
Sara smiled for the first time since Casey had disappeared. "Case? Is that you?"
"It's me."
"Where are you? I've been worried sick about you!"
"I was kidnapped, Sara. When I came to, Ethan Crane came and said that we were in the Cranes' basement. So I'm calling from his room. I'm so sorry that you've been in such pain. I can't imagine how you're feeling."
"Well, I'm feeling better knowing that you're alive. Is Sheridan with you?"
"Yeah. She's got amnesia, though. I want you to talk to her. You can help her get some of her memories back, hopefully."
"Okay." Casey handed the phone to Sheridan.
"Hello?" Sheridan said, uncertainly.
"Hi, Sheridan, this is Sara."
"Oh, hi, Sara. Casey told me about you."
"Yeah. Can I ask you something really quick? I know you don't remember me, but could you please take care of Casey? I don't know what I'd do if… well, you know."
"Yeah, I know. And I will. For you."
"Thank you. Um… do you want to talk to Luis?"
"Okay, I guess." Sara gave the phone back to Luis. "Hi, Sher."
For some reason, the sound of his voice gave her a chill. "Hey, Luis. I only have one memory and it's of you."
"Really?" Luis smiled. "I mean, that's good that you're getting your memory back. Hopefully you'll get your full memory back soon."
"I hope so. I know, deep down inside of me, that I love you, and I just wanted to tell you that because I know you must be miserable."
"That's my Sheridan. Always thinking of others."
She smiled. It felt good to know that she belonged to someone when she felt so alone. "Oh, Luis, Casey wants to talk to you."
"Oh, all right. Just remember that I love you, even though you don't remember me all that well, okay?"
"All right." Then she handed the phone to Casey.
"Luis?"
"Yeah?"
"Take care of Sara for me, okay? Make sure that nothing happens to her."
"Okay. You take care of Sher, too."
"I will. Promise. Can I talk to Sara again?"
"Sure. Sara, Casey wants to talk to you," Luis said, handing the phone to Sara.
"Sara, be careful, okay?"
"I will. You, too."
"Okay. I love you, Sara. Always remember that. It may be a while before we see each other again, but I want you to know that I love you and always will."
"Oh, Casey, I love you too. Always and forever. Take care, my love." She hung up the phone. "Thank God he's alive." Little did she know that that was going to be the last time she heard from her husband in a long time.
