MARKET NEWS

For this week, since it is 7-new year-holidays, so no big market news in Chinese market.

1.      This year, HSBC and City Bank will get the permit to make their credit card available in China. So for chinese people, this year, they can get the chance to hold a international bank credit card.

           http://finance.sina.com.cn/b/20030203/0841308324.shtml

2.       More and more people like sending SMS to greeting Chinese new year, the first day of Chinese new year, Over 2 million users send over 10 million greeting SMS from Sina, this is the highest daily trafic of Sina SMS.

           http://tech.sina.com.cn/i/c/2003-02-01/1907163972.shtml

  1. New data is: there are total 95,700,000 register subscribers of NETEASE by last december, this is from NETEASE home page. Why this number is much bigger than Chinese total Internet users? I thought: 1, because still overseas Chinese can use it, 2. Maybe one user can register twice or even more.

  1. Internet

There were 571 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Australia supplying Internet access services to 4.2 million active subscribers at the end of March 2002.

·          6 Very large ISPs (with more than 100,000 subscribers), which provided Internet, access to 66% (2.8 million) of all Internet subscribers.

·          26 Large ISPs (with 10,001 to 100,000 subscribers) with 19% (0.8 million) of subscribers

Of the 4.2 million Internet subscribers in Australia, there were 3.7 million household subscribers and 505,000 business and government subscribers.

Over the six-month period to the end of March 2002, there was a decline of 5,000 household Internet subscribers and a decline of 39,000 business and government Internet subscribers

The number of subscribers declined by 43,000 (1%). This fall in the number of subscribers was due to declines in the number of subscribers with free access (-180,000) and hourly access (-155,000) being offset by increases in the number of subscribers with other types of access (+292,000). Other types of access include monthly/quarterly/annual access, volume access and other access
