1.      China's Sina.com posts first ever quarterly profit

NEW YORK, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Sina.com (NasdaqNM:SINA - News) on Monday posted its first-ever, no-excuses quarterly profit of $1.5 million, the third of China's four publicly-listed dot-com Internet media companies to generate small quarterly profits.

2.      Jan 28, 2003. China Unicom’s CDMA X1 was be first used in Shanghai city. It means China Unicom’s CDMA enter 2.5G period. So now the Shanghai users will be the first to use China Unicom’s WAP, MMS, and Mobile camera take and send pictures. But for the whole nation, CDMA X1 will be used in March this year, that is a formal time.

3.      Chinese new is coming, all the Chinese people will have a at least one week holidays, so CCW Research recently did a research about Greeting the Chinese new year. The research said, for 2003, SMS would become the first important way for the people to greet their friend new year. It forecast that in the New Year first week, average every mobile user would send 40 piece messages.  And total message would be over 7 billion in that week in China. Among them, 1.9% will be MMS. The total SMS and MMS income in that week will get 800 million RMB.

4.      Jan 27, China Unicom announces that Yao Ming (NBA) is their CDMA brand spokesman for three years. China Unicom managers thought this would give more competition ability to China Unicom and more chance to get more users.

5.      S Korea Government Adopts New Policies For Wireless Companies

SEOUL -(Dow Jones)- South Korean wireless carriers will be allowed to share the same prefix service numbers and mobile subscribers will be able to switch calling plans without changing phone numbers, beginning in January 2004.

6.      SK Telecom's 4th-Quarter Net Profit Fell 24%

SEOUL, South Korea -- SK Telecom Co. said Wednesday its fourth-quarter net profit fell 24% from a year earlier to 164 billion won ($139.5 million), mainly because of incurred losses from its equity swap with KT Corp. and a rise in nonoperating expenses.

7.      In 2002, Nokia increase its Mobile market share from 35% to 38% in Globe, it is still be the NO 1, and Motorola also increased its market to 19% in Globe, but in China market, homemade Mobile brands increased their market from 12% to 30%.

8.      China "Little Smart" Users Exceed 12 Million By End-2002

BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- The number of subscribers in China to the discount mobile phone service known as Xiaolingtong, or "Little Smart", grew by 7.8 million during 2002 to exceed 12 million by the end of the year, an industry executive said Friday.
