The site also offer online interactive community services, online multi-player games, shoet messaging and e-mail service, as well as auction and online mall technology services that provide oppportunities for e-commerce and traditional businesses to establish and online e-commerce presence.

SINA: 10.3 million US dollars. Grew by 71% year over year.

SOHU: 7.5 million US dollars. Grew by 111% year over year.

NETEASE: 9.0 million US dollars. Grew by 900% year over year.

SINA: 6.5 million US dollars. Grew by 26% year over year.

SOHU: 3.7 million US dollars. Grew by 52% year over year.

7.      US GAAP Net Profit.

SINA: -$ 559,000.   narrowed 89% from same period of last year.

SOHU: +$ 112,000.     $3.2 million improvement from same period last year.

NETEASE: -$ 1.1 million. Because here is a result of the one-time charge $ 4.35 million. If no that big charge case, NETEASE would have achieved an operating profit $ 3.3 million.

8.      About the case of NETEASE.

The one-time charge for the Company during the quarter represented a non-recurring expense of RMB36.0 million (US$4.35 million) which is the aggregate amount of damages that the Company has agreed to pay the plaintiffs to settle all claims in the class action litigation filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The litigation was initiated in October 2001 against the Company, certain members of its current and former officers and directors, and the underwriters of Company's initial public offering, and claimed that the Company and the other defendants had violated various U.S. securities laws by misstating its revenue in the year 2000. The monetary settlement is subject to a number of conditions, including the plaintiffs' completion of confirmatory discovery to confirm that this settlement amount is fair and reasonable and approval of the settlement by the District Court. The Company cannot predict if or when this settlement will become final.

9.      The register users.

SINA: 53.3 million by the end of June 2002.

SOHU: over 50 million by the end of September.

NETEASE: 8.7 million by the end of September.

10. For stockholder, per share:

SINA: -$ 0.01.

NETEASE: -$ 0.04.

11.ANALYSIS.

SINA: most icome form advertising. And 37% from non-advertising. And wireless short messaging service and SINA.net enterprise services helped to quadruple non advertising revenue. And about 65% percent non-advertising revenue from SMS. And even in the past two months, more than 200,000 paid members played the new service SMS dating service.

SOHU: 60% non advertising revenue from SMS service, SMS service became the big incoma part and fastest growing part of SOHU.

NETEASE: most from the company’s fee-based services, including principally wireless shoet messaging services and, to a lesser extent, other fee-based online premium services, such as premium email, friend finding and dating services. Online games also drove revenue growth due to the successful commercial launch of the two online games,” Priston tale” and “ westward journey online version 2.0” in august 2002.

Sales of news, games, jokes, logos and ringtones from mobile phones have been a fast grpwing business for SOHU, NETEASE and SINA.

1. China Web portals rocket again
    Business prospects improve for Netease, Sohu, Sina

 

    NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- While U.S. Web portals have fallen out of favor with many investors, their Chinese counterparts have enjoyed a recent surge in activity not seen since the go-go days of the late 1990s.

Over the last few days, the "Big Three" Chinese Web portals -- Sina, Sohu and Netease -- have seen double-digit percentage gains in their share prices on the back of improved business prospects.

On Wednesday, shares of Netease jumped 35 percent, or $1.54, to a 52-week high of $5.99 after the Beijing-based portal reported an operating profit, excluding a special charge related to litigation. Moreover, its trading volume rocketed from a daily average of 85,000 to 550,000 by late afternoon trade.

Its rivals Sina (SINA: news, chart, profile) and Sohu (SOHU: news, chart, profile), meanwhile, enjoyed more modest gains of 5 to 6 percent. It may not seem like much, but both firms as well as Netease have seen their share prices climb well over 30 percent since Sohu surprised the markets by turning its first net profit two weeks ago.

3. China Telecom to relaunch huge IPO
Insufficient investor demand may force price cut

Oct 31.

The delay shows that the bruising of telecom companies in the worst bear market in years is hardly over.

It also raises the possibility that the price of China Telecom's 16.8-billion-share initial public offering could be cut, assuming regulatory approval in Beijing, Hong Kong and the U.S.

The company, which is the overseas listing vehicle for China's largest fixed-line telecom operator, had set a price range between HK$1.48 and HK$1.71. Even at the lower end of the range, the deal was set to be and the world's third-largest IPO so far this year and Asia's biggest.

It doesn't appear there's much room for cutting the IPO price to woo institutional investors: HK$1.48 is just a few pennies above China Telecom's book value, and Beijing doesn't allow state firms to be sold to the public at less than book value.

Alternatives could include cutting the size of the offering or hiking the dividend yield, analysts said.

A person familiar with the transaction said the deal would be relaunched "no later than early next week."

5. China United Telecom Completes Ownership Changes

SHANGHAI -(Dow Jones)- Shanghai-listed China United Telecommunications Corp. said that it has increased its control of a unit listed in Hong Kong and New York.

In line with the terms in the prospectus for its September share offering, China United Telecommunications has boosted its stake in Unicom BVI to about 74% from 51%. Unicom BVI holds 77% of China Unicom Ltd. , which is listed in Hong Kong and New York
