| The dictionary defines clique as a narrow exclusive circle or group of persons. I define clique as a bunch of kids gathering around to make sure that other kids fell inferior for not being in their group. The last three years of my life were spent here, observing the caste system among my peers. It amuses me, but at the same time makes me nauseous, that we still follow a ridiculous social pyramid. Even more amusing is that the teachers actually encourage this. Not that they flat out say class I want you to treat this person better because they have money, or class, this student plays on my team, so Im going to pay more attention to them. I have yet to hear a teacher say that. Im just suggesting that certain students get treated better. From two students getting in trouble for underage drinking and so far only one has faced the consequences; to several talented students trying out for one thing and a lesser talented student receiving a role. Coaches who are also teachers will engage in conversation with their players, as they tend to more or less ignore students not athletic enough to be on the team. All I can say is that if teachers cant be indifferent, why should students. I think the clique situation is always going to be a problem, but if no one else is going to stand up and start a revolution, why cant I just sit back down in the back of the class with the rest of my friends who accept me, and waste class period doodling away as the teacher ensues a conversation about something totally unrelated with a student in the front of the room. |
