The Software The software used and described in this tutorial is the Nintendo 64 Hacking Utility. This software program can download the codes from your Gameshark and upload new codes to it. It can also take pictures and be used as a hacking device. ================================================================================================= III. Where to get the Software Well, since gameshark.com is now charging for this software, I have uploaded it to my Geocities site. It is free for download by anyone that wants it. It can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/pimpalicious316/n64hacking_utility.zip ================================================================================================= IV. The Cable The cable that attaches the Gameshark to your computer has come to be called "The Sharklink". This sounds so big and bad but here is a secret...its a printer cable. All it is, is a 25 pin male/female printer cable. Chances are that you already have this cable if you have a printer. Just plug the cable into your computer parallel port and then into the back of your Gameshark. Then start the software. ================================================================================================= V. Where to get the Cable You can get this 25 pin male/female printer cable at pretty much any computer/electronics store. Any of these stores in the Indiana stores has this cable: 1. CompUSA 2. Best Buy 3. Radio Shack 4. Circuit City ================================================================================================= VI. Detection This part of the tutorial is the easiest. Once the cable is hooked up to your computer and your Gameshark, then the software is installed, run the program. At the opening screen click the detect button. This just makes sure your cable is connected. The only error you will ever see is this: If you are having trouble connecting, do the following: 1. Ensure the cable is plugged firmly into your PC's Printer (parallel) port and firmly into the cartridge. 2. Ensure everything is plugged in and switch the console off and on again - it helps if the cable is in when you switch the console on. If you have done everyhting correctly then there should be no problems. But trust me on one thing, you WILL see this message at least once while using the software. It's inevitable. ================================================================================================= VII. Downloading This process takes ALL the codes that are currently on your Gameshark and puts them on your computer in text format. Follow these steps: 1. Make sure you have "Detected" (sec. VI) your Gameshark 2. Click on the Code List tab at the top 3. Click the Browse button on the RIGHT (==>) side of the menu 4. Select where you want to download the codes to (I use the Utility folder) 5. Name the file and click Save 6. Click the Download Codes button 7. Your screen should freeze a little bit and then its all over 8. Open Wordpad/Notepad and then open the file you just created That is all there is to it. You now have all the codes on your hard drive now. ================================================================================================= VIII. Uploading This is the second most used feature on my Hacking Utility. This lets you take long ass codes and upload them to your Gameshark in literally minutes. Its a great feature and here's how to use it: 1. Open the file you just "Downloaded" (sec. VII) in Wordpad/Notepad 2. Copy and paste the desired code(s) into the text file. Make sure you put them under your No Mercy game. Follow the correct format also... "GAME TITLE" .off 8....... .... 8....... .... 8....... .... etc..... .... This format is the basic gameshark format. 3. Make sure the code has all capital letters and no spaces after each line. 8....... .... <=== Space here needs to be removed 8016b454 0000 <=== The lower case b needs to be a capital B Another common error is the use of O instead of 0. The letter O is not read by the GS so it gives an error when compiling. 4. After all bugs have been worked out of the code, save it and open the Utility 5. Make sure you have "Detected" (sec. VI) your Gameshark 6. Click on the Code List tab at the top 7. Click the Browse button on the LEFT (<==) side of the menu 8. Select the file you just Downloaded/Edited and click Save 9. Click the Compile Codes button. This checks the entire file for the proper format 10. If there is no problem, click the Upload button at the bottom of the menu If there is a problem it will tell you what line it is in. Unless you wanna count lines, just assume its in one of the codes you just added. Check all the common problems listed in step 3. If everyhting is ok, you are ready to upload. 11. Press the upload button and the GS will freeze and go to a screen that says "Upgrade Complete" 12. Turn off the Nintendo and then back on after about 5 seconds. 13. Go to your No Mercy game and at the bottom of the list are your new codes. ================================================================================================= IX. Pictures You can also take pictures with your GS and if you have a GIF animator, can make animations. You need an Expansion Pak to do this: 1. Make sure you have "Detected" (sec. VI) your Gameshark 2. Click the Other Utilities tab at the top of the menu 3. Turn on the codes you need to (on your Gameshark) 4. TURN ON YOUR CODE GENERATOR (on the GS screen where it says "Start game with/without selected codes") 5. When you are ready to take the picture click the "Grab Video Image" button 6. Select where you want to save the picture and what it will be called 7. Click the save button 8. The screen will stop wherever you are in the game and the software will save a picture of whatever is on screen at that time. Now, this process take a while (clicking, typing, saving). So how do I make animations of moves. Well here is how I do it: 1. Win the match with the move 2. Get ready to save a picture (follow the above directions) 3. Name the picture 1 4. Click Enter (when the move begins in Replay) 5. Click enter again and press 2 6. Click enter again then enter again and press 3 7. Click enter again then enter again and press 4 8. Follow this format with nimbers progressing to save images quickly ================================================================================================= X. Code Generator/Results The Code Generator feature can be used like the Code Generator on your Gameshark. It is pretty much self-explainatory and the results of each search are displayed in the Results (Code Tester) tab. ================================================================================================= XI. Upgrades If you are using a GS Pro 3.0 or higher you can upgrade to a version 3.3 which is the highest version available at this time. To do this: 1. Make sure you are connected to the Internet 2. "Detect" (sec. VI) your Gameshark 3. Click the "Other Utilities" tab 5. If you want to erase all codes on your GS with newer codes click the box for it 6. If you want to keep the codes you have now, but add new ones, do not click this button 7. After everything is set, click upgrade And that is all there is to it. You now have version 3.3 ================================================================================================= XII.
