Two figures, a slightly illuminated male and female elf, bend over a perfectly still pool of water, holding an infant just barely above the motionless pond. The infant, making no sound, sits patiently in the womans' hands, stormy blue-gray eyes wide open and seeing only its mother eyes. The male elf, father to the silent baby, chants in a quick, but steady tone consisting of elvish words. As the chant heightens, the mother kneels, completely emerging the child into the still unmoving water. The newborn elf endures silently, bubbles wiggling free from its tiny mouth and nose, and storm-swept eyes still wide open and focussed.
The male's chanting slows to a stead pulse of words, beating against the heart, and as he does so, the water of the still pool begins to glow brighter, shining white. The child below the water edge cries out, disrupting the entire woodland around the small lake. Startled from the tedious Song of Blessing, the fathers' tongue stumbles over the next of the difficult words. The mothers' eyes snap up, away from the child, to look at the man beside her. She whispers angrily in Elvish, her voice musical, "You fool! You may have just jeopordized the entire process and cursed all of us!". His eyes are wide in fright, but he contiues the chant, his voice strong and stable, even if his thoughts are not.
Finally, as the chant ends, the female raises the infant from the water and he emeges, eyes shut and wailing loudly. She cradles the child, cooing words of comfort to him. She looked to the male. "We live, my husband. We are lucky that the Goddess took pity on our faults." she said, in that lilting tone. The child cries were unended while she added as an after-thought, "He should not have cried. The Goddess has always immited a comforting feeling before." The other elf looked at her, his gaze vanishing in her deep green eyes, before replying, "We cannot help it. He is different anyways, look at him, laying there, wailing. He has strange eyes. Elven eyes are usually blue or green. His are..."
She silenced her love's further words with a look. "I will name him...", she whispered lightly to the air, "Saerleon."
