Later, D'Argo accidentally smashes something on board Moya, leading him to relive his past and tell the crew about why he was imprisoned. He was framed for his Sebacean wife's murder, where it was accidentally his wife's brother who killed her. D'Argo also has a son, a Luxan-Sebacean hybrid, who he sent away to hide all those cycles ago. Meanwhile, the device D'Argo smashed makes Moya pregnant.
However, Zhaan soon runs into some more of her kind, Delvian priestesses who want her to share her wisdom. However, these priestesses have no patience and pluck her wisdom from her, meaning Zhaan cannot control herself. She tells Crichton of her crime, why she was imprisoned for killing her Delvian lover. Once she regains her wisdom, she renounces the Delvian Seek, her holy ways.
Soon afterward, Moya collides with a Nebari transport, bringing aboard a Nebari escort, the Nebari prisoner Chiana, and the mind-cleansed Durka, Rygel's old torturer. Rygel tries many times to kill the now-passive Durka, but this jolts Durka's mind-cleansing and he makes an attempt to take over control of Moya and kill her foetus. He is stopped and thrown overboard, more or less, and the crew welcome Chiana as a new member.
Crichton though manages to locate a wormhole and, leaving Moya and her crew behind, goes through to find Earth. However, he suspects something is wrong, in that nothing has advanced past the day he left - the newspapers are from the day he left, and nobody will tell him what has happened between. Crew members from Moya decide to follow, and Rygel is disected, D'Argo dragged off to a research facility, leaving only him and Aeryn. They break out and Crichton discovers that he is not on Earth, that everything is a fake by a race known as the Ancients, who know how to produce wormholes and are seeking a new home. They used Crichton's memories of Earth to see if they will be welcomed, and they wouldn't from what Crichton's vision of Earth indicated what would happen to Rygel.
It's not long until the Peacekeepers come calling again, and everyone must be put behind bars as Crichton and Aeryn play at being Peacekeeper researchers to fool them. The Peacekeeper cargo though, a mind-controlling virus, gets loose and takes control of the crew until nearly all the Peacekeepers are killed. The remaining Peacekeeper stabs Aeryn just before he dies, the virus along with him.
Desperately needing nerve tissue for Aeryn, Crichton and Chiana head to the Peacekeeper's destination, a Gammak base. There, Crichton plays at being a Peacekeeper again, using the ID taken from the other Peacekeepers, with Chiana as his slave. He gets past security with the aid of Jilina, a Peacekeeper Tech who he met on board the Zelbinnion, and manages to get the nerve tissue. He nearly makes it out but is confronted by a creature called Scorpius, who somehow knows he is not a Peacekeeper. Chiana sneaks off with the nerve tissue for Aeryn, as Crichton is put in the Aurora chair, a chair which reads memories. There, Scorpius finds that Crichton holds the knowledge to produce wormholes - the Ancients buried it in his brain without him knowing. Scorpius continues his interrogation as Crais is called, Scorpius also having found his relationship with Crichton. Meanwhile, Moya goes into labour and manages, with the help of Pilot, Chiana and Rygel, to deliver a son, but he has genetic abnormalities - somehow he has managed to grow guns. Jilina manages to get Crais implicated though, and he is sentenced to the Aurora chair while Crichton, Jilina and prison mate Stark escape to Moya, but Jilina is shot and dies. Stark also leaves Moya for a life of his own.
Being pursued by the Peacekeepers though, Moya and her son hide in an asteroid belt where Aeryn is asked by Pilot and Moya to go aboard Moya's offspring. Aeryn accepts and finds it to be a perfect hybrid of Leviathan and Peacekeeper technologies, and that the offspring does not require a Pilot, that it can respond to voice commands directly.
However, Rygel decides to surrender to the Peacekeepers. The others plan their getaway, planning to blow up the command carrier, but Rygel returns with a desperate Crais, seeking sanctuary from Scorpius who wants to execute him for disobeying orders in pursuing Crichton. Together, they concoct a new plan of blowing up the Gammak base, but Crichton must take the transport and bail out at the last minute. This will provide a distraction for Scorpius so the others have time to Starburst, with Moya's son being sucked along behind, and Aeryn picking up Crichton. D'Argo must also accompany Crichton due to his ability to survive in space. But Crais boards Moya's son and leads him astray from Moya's side, Aeryn announcing the name she has chosen for him - Talyn. Moya does not want to leave without Talyn and, just as the Gammak base explodes, Pilot patches Crichton through directly to Moya so he can convince her to leave, as the only way for her to save Talyn will be to rescue herself first.
Moya manages to Starburst away, taking Zhaan, Rygel, Chiana and Pilot. Aeryn is still trying to pick up Crichton and D'Argo, but if she makes any sudden movements she will be spotted on Peacekeeper radar. And Crais has escaped with Talyn. To be continued...
