In Whole
Previously on Farscape - the whole story suddenly flashes by in about one minute - a huge montage of clips which is brilliant and epic, a story about an astronaunt, aliens, and wormholes. Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. You gotta love it.
And finally, on Farscape...
(damn, can't stop myself from watching those clips - it's gonna screw my video)
John and Aeryn. Conversation. Moya's command room. John's remembering how Scorpius has tried to convince him to follow his path - ally with the Peacekeepers, destroy the Scarrens. Sounds easy enough on paper. Except Braca's outside with a Command Carrier, demanding Scorpius be returned, or he destroys Moya.
Not a good situation.
And Braca has sent them an intercepted communication from the ruins of Katrazi. Yup, Staalik, Ak'nor and their merry bunch are still alive, and are now after Earth. Guess why? Flowers. Always with the flowers. And now Jphn's annoyed that it seems he's lead them to Earth.
Not a good situation.
Scorpius has assured John he had nothing to do with this, but that said, reality presents opportunity. Ally with the PKs and they will see to it that their entire might is thrown into protecting Earth. John really doesn't know who to trust. Trust the PKs to protect Earth?
Not a good situation.
However, there is another choice - destroy the wormhole. Isolate Earth. Can John do it? Yes. No. Maybe.
But what if the Scarrens get there first? What if they murder everyone? Enslave Earth? Ravage humanity?
Make a decision John...
Either way, it's a big commitment. So Aeryn thinks John is afraid of commitment.
John talking to D'Argo about talking to Aeryn. They seem to have got the wrong idea about Aeryn thinking John is afraid of commitment. Aeryn and Chiana seem concerned.
Back with John and Aeryn. Earth is not ready. Will they ever be? So what do we do?
John - We hope. We hope I find a way to destroy the wormhole. Otherwise all the bad things happen. And it'll be all my fault.
John and D'Argo meet Chiana and Aeryn, and have a look at the first stage of the plan. Sikozu and Scorpius in an airlock, wearing space suits, waiting to be jetisonned. Sikozu says the Scarren ship following is a Striker, which could even beat them to the wormhole if they use starburst. Braca doesn't stand a chance to get there in time. Scorpius' plan - form an alliance with the humans, and therefore try to disuade the Scarrens attacking. If they do, the PKs will begin the war with them.
Nobody's listening to Scorpius though. Not any more. It's too late.
And now, John fastens the bomb to Scorpius. D'Argo informs Braca that, when Moya is a safe distance away, it will be disarmed. If Braca shoots or anything like that, his beloved Scorpy-sue goes bye-bye.
Welcome to the nuclear age.
Sikozu still says Crichton should trust Scorpius. But instead, Crichton says Scorpius, Sikozu and himself had best grab their helmets. D'Argo lets Braca know, in the kindest possible way, not to try making any suggestions to their plan - they're not listening.
John did this. He will fix it. Crichton, Sikozu and Scorpius are then spaced, Crichton being tethered to Moya so he stays in. Sikozu is yelling "weak species" as she is sucked out.
Then Moya goes into starburst. The race is on.
And so is the intro. Possibly for the final time.
The ruins of Katrazi. Ak'nor is annoyed that Staalik sent her lover, Pennok, to Earth. Staalik tells her to get with it, to move on for the greater good of Scarren kind, though they be politically opposed. The hierarchy shall judge them both harshly. The flowers are destroyed.
But that's one of the reasons they're going to Earth. John inadvertently told them the flowers grow there.
John, meantime, is scouring over wormhole equations. Trying to figure it out. They're almost out of comms reach with Scorpius. D'Argo suggests he concentrate on his training with Katoya, to figure out how to collapse a wormhole.
Chiana suggests sex.
And Stark helps by hiding in a corner. Gotta love that guy.
D'Argo though tells John that, if he had made a pact with the Peacekeepers, they'd honour it and protect Earth. Then enslave it.
Then John sees something, and in frustration laser-blasts some of his wormhole equations on parchment. He asks Pilot why they haven't starbursted again yet to reach the wormhole. The answer - Moya's concentrating all her energy into an extended starburst technique.
The extended starburst is bad. Everyone is blurring slightly. Noranti does her usual of offering drugs to John. After all, Rygel is vomitting continuously, and Stark has passed out so he can't vomit. Aeryn arrives and Noranti makes herself scarce ("I can take a hint"). John is still trying to think of a solution. He thinks he's gonna fail. It's a sin. He's close. There's just not enough time. Aeryn simply replies - it's always about time.
Time Bandits.
Time Warp.
Timing.
Brainwave!!!
Positioning 1812 in Pilot's den, John asks Pilot to go through something with him. When wormholes are created, they create a bubble for a moment just before they appear, demonstrated courtesy of 1812's hologram. This bubble only appears momentarily, but Crichton believes if they go through to the Earth side of the wormhole, and pop the bubble when coming back, the wormhole will collapse behind the object coming through. This bubble though cannot be seen, though Pilot says he can see them. However, the timing is so precise it'll be practically impossible for John. Even if he could see the bubble, John couldn't do it because of how slow human eye/link coordination is.
Moya emerges from extended starburst right by the wormhole. They've beaten the Scarrens. John is preparing his module, and Aeryn says she'll go too. Pilot's explained the maneouvre - they're still gonna try and pop the bubble - and neither of them are optimistic. If it fails, they'll be stuck on Earth. Aeryn can think of a lot worse places to be stuck, but not if the Scarrens get there.
John asks Aeryn what she imagined for her life. Service, promotion, retirement, death. Meantime, Rygel meets with Pilot. Rygel says Pilot should do it. Pilot asks if Rygel would, to which he replies "no, but I'm not you."
On the command carrier, Braca is glad to have Scorpius back. Grayza, apparently, is in the brig under sedation. Scorpius believes Crichton will soon return of his own volition.
Back on Moya, John records a message on his old tape recorder. It's the intro. Meanwhile, Harvey scampers through his head in a bunny costume pondering the meaning of Easter and the deeper meaning of religion. Harvey does want John to succeed. Should he fail, Harvey doesn't want to reside in the head that blames itself. But Harvey believes he will fail. But you can believe what you want to believe, such as religion. Or you don't, in which case, chocolate?
John is now on Scorpius' side. He's gonna try and call the PKs, ally with them and avert a massacre. He can't risk Earth. Chiana and D'Argo try to persuade him otherwise, but to no avail. However, Scorpy's out of range.
Back with Sikozu and Scorpius, the two appear to be pleasing themselves in a way that'll surely make them go blind, as Braca watches on, probably soon to go blind himself.
On Moya, Pilot is in convulsions. He tells Aeryn that he and Moya have never been in disagreements like this before. He confesses to Aeryn about wanting to help Crichton and pop the bubble himself. As soon as Crichton learns, he goes after Rygel, knowing it was him who persuaded Pilot to help. However, they are going to go ahead with Pilot's plan. It involves removing Pilot from Moya and bundling him into a transport pod so he can pop the bubble. The transport pods are made out of some of the same material of Moya so he can survive for an arn. However, if he does not get back to Moya in an arn, the opening for Pilot will scab over in Moya and reconnection will be impossible.
Stark tries to comfort Moya, while Noranti gives Pilot some drugs to help him relax. D'Argo and Chiana are waiting to disconnect, and Pilot agrees, relinquishing command to captain D'Argo. Then the disconnection begins, but Noranti has some problems - Stark is delirious, so Chiana goes and helps him by hitting him. Unfortunately not repeatedly. Pilot tells Chiana that some command sequences must be inputted while Pilot is away, otherwise life support will shut down. However, Pilot is demonstrating too fast and Stark cannot follow, so Chiana does her eye trick to remember the commands, blinding herself again.
Noranti has fortified Pilot with many, many drugs, herbal medicines and probably some form of voodoo as well, and he is now in the transport pod. She is tending to the neural circuits that would extend between Moya and Pilot, keeping them moist. Rygel tells her not to hold her breath - this isn't one she could even get odds on.
The transport pod leaves Moya, John, Aeryn and Pilot aboard. Meanwhile, the Scarrens are less than an arn away. The wormhole opens and the transport pod flies in as it vanishes.
Now to Earth's moon. John is finally walking in his father's footsteps up there, looking at the photo Jack took up of his family by a star spangled banner. Aeryn is trying to wake up Pilot, while John uses a phone he was given on their last trip to Earth to call Jack from Serenity Base. He tells him the Scarrens have found Earth and are on their way. There is nothing Earth can do. John has to do it. He has to seal up the wormhole.
But how does Earth get into deep space? The old fashioned way, John says. Build a rocket. He's left technology and navigation information on a tape at the flagpole.
John doesn't have long to talk to his father. He'll have to go soon. Jack wants to go with him though, along with the best 500 they could muster, from Terra Firma before. But there's no time.
Jack tells him that, finally, Earth is coming together about space exploration, just as John wanted. Jack was looking forward to going with John.
John tells Jack to send his love to everyone. And Jack tells John to tell his grandkids about him. John won't have any trouble doing that.
After all, Jack is his hero.
But Jack tells him that, when he has his own, they always surpass your expectations. Jack knows John loves him. He's known all his life.
The Scarrens are looming ever closer. Moya is too dazed to respond to anyone apart from Pilot for navigation. Chiana is still blind, and Stark is terrified at meeting even more Scarrens.
Then the wormhole opens near Moya. The Scarren Striker is on schedule, makes a few passing shots at Moya, crippling her, and continues down the wormhole towards Earth.
Meanwhile, the wormhole still hasn't opened at Earth, and John, Aeryn and Pilot are flying straight towards where it should be. Pilot is barely conscious, and thinks he's going to fail them all.
John makes a confession. What scares him is that he could never see the end. What scares Aeryn though is that she always could.
After a few tense seconds, Pilot can see the bubble forming, and begins accelerating towards it.
They puncture the bubble just as the wormhole opens, and it proceeds to collapse behind them.
However, the Scarren Striker is in the wormhole as well, and tries to avoid the transport pod. Not necessary - they pass through each other inside the wormhole space. However, with Striker proceeds to smash into the collapsing wormhole wall in an orgy of supreme special effects.
Safely emerging from the wormhole, they proceed to get back to Moya as soon as possible so Pilot can re-integrate himself with her.
Later, Moya is healing in an ocean. Nothing but endless water all round her, half-submerged in it. Stark is comforting Pilot, but tries to take a little bit too much credit for himself, something Noranti doesn't particularly like, so she drugs him (has she GOT to drug everyone at least once or something?!?
Still seems Chiana is blind though, something she takes out on Rygel. She is afraid she's going to be blind forever, she admits to D'Argo. D'Argo says that they found a diagnosan nearby, and he'll be the first stop they make.
Meantime, John has built a boat for himself and Aeryn, and is floating just a little way away from Moya with Aeryn in it.
A year ago, they let a coin make their decisions for them. Never again.
Aeryn though tells John that she was terrified about what the Scarrens may have done to her baby. She released the baby from it's stasis on the Command Carrier, and also found out who the father is.
It's John's.
John is happy. No, John is more than happy, he stands up in the boat and yells out at the top of his voice "we're gonna have a baby!"
Watching from Moya, D'Argo thinks John is very, very angry about something.
Then John gets ready to ask his question, and gets down onto his knees.
Rygel believes John has hurt himself.
Then John asks Aeryn if she'll marry him.
Aeryn says yes.
Rygel says the boat is sinking.
John brings out a ring. The ring Olivia gave him, that belonged to their mother, and puts it on her finger. Chiana, while still blind, tells him that, in the Earth movies, they always did things like this. John has proposed marriage.
Rygel calls him an idiot.
However, someone has something to say about that.
Someone new.
Someone who has a face that can split apart, and calls John and Aeryn invaders. He says the coordinates received were correct, and will neutralise the invaders for analysis.
John and his timing.
Knowing these could the their final moments, John and Aeryn kiss.
Just as they kiss, the ship makes a sweep down, and fires at the kissing couple, turning them to stone.
The stone John and Aeryn then shatter into thousands of pieces, littering the boat.
Only the ring is left untouched.
What I thought
And what about John and Aeryn?
As good as you can hope, and then some.
Come on, you know the result. Could it ever be anything else?
Possibly the best episode ever.
5 out of 5.
Now let's go save this show.
Anyone coming from www.watchfarscape.com at the moment - apologies for not posting there but it seems so busy I cannot get on.
It's over!!! It's all over!!! Hopefully not, but *sob* it's over, maybe. Maybe not. Let's hope. In the meantime, BEST EPISODE EVER?!? Fantastic effects. Lots of characterisation. Lots of stuff that will stay around into the possible future. Sweet. Bitter. Makes you want to cry in happiness. Makes you want to cry in sadness and frustration. The music - totally epic and a credit to Guy Gross. An ending that will make you stare at your screen in shock and disbelief, as the happiest situation we can imagine turns into a sad one. Walking on the moon. Talking to dad. Pilot being the Pilot we know and love - reliable, caring, being prepared to make sacrifices. Chiana finally going blind? Sex. Love. Rock 'n' roll. The boat. Harvey doing his usual weird stuff. Stark hiding in corners. Noranti drugging everyone up. D'Argo and Rygel totally misreading the situation. Scorpius and Sikozu getting 'intimate'.
