#0319 - I-Yensch, You-Yensch

Overview
As Crichton's plan is implemented, both Rygel and Scorpius find their negotiating skills put to the test, while Talyn becomes increasingly irrational.

In Whole
Continuing from Fractures, Nojgil the Scarren is about to leave for a medical ship supplied by the Peacekeepers. He invites Jool to come with him, afraid for her life as the others negotiate with Scorpius and to help find her home, but she refuses. Meanwhile, Chiana is not enthusiastic about the negotiations, and threatens to leave, before she has a premonition of Peacekeepers.
In a restaurant on a barren moon, Rygel and D'Argo await Scorpius in order to negotiate. When he arrives, what appears to be an ambush from Scorpius and Braca turns out to be a way to find that Rygel and D'Argo are unarmed. Scorpius and Braca lower their defenses, as per the arrangements, and begin to negoatiate, and comms are removed. Meanwhile, the restuarant cooks seem agitated.
As Nojgil leaves for the medical ship, Jool seems ready to jump ship with him, but Chiana confronts her with a vision of her mourning for Jool. But back at the restaurant, the main deal is laid down, as Rygel reminds Scorpius of the situation, and says that Crichton would much more rather have the Peacekeepers have the wormhole tech than the Scarrens. Again, the cooks seem agitated.
Back on Moya, Peacekeeper ships approach Moya unannounced. Talyn targets the ships, and the ships target Moya, with Chiana being paranoid about her visions. Crais orders Talyn to fire on the ships, but he also targets the medical ship. Crais tries to stop him, but Talyn still fires for no reason, destroying the medical ship, at which point Jool is somewhat peeved, as 600 people, including Nojgil were on the ship. Chiana realises her vision of mourning was for the people on the medical ship, not Jool. Meanwhile, Moya refuses to move. Talyn has powered down, not responding to anyone, and Moya refuses to abandon him.
D'Argo and Rygel negotiate for a guarantee for their safety, and Scorpius presents two bracelets. D'Argo and Braca each put one on, and it seems if pain or death is inflicted on one person, then it is inflicted on the other, as Rygel proves, for they have synchronized nerve pulses. It seems Scorpius's initial plan was for Crichton and Braca each to wear one, but Rygel tries to bargain for Scorpius and Crichton to wear them. Scorpius does not agree, and just as the deal is closing down, two robbers with guns come into the restaurant and proceed to take people hostage, with Braca and D'Argo both with bracelets locked on them.
Back on Moya, it is revealed Talyn is in shock, feeling remorse for his mistake, which Jool admonishes him for. Talyn is paranoid, and a danger to himself. Crais talks of shutting Talyn down, to which Moya doesn't agree. This wouldn't kill Talyn, but suspend him until he can be gotten to a place where his personality will be reset, made new.
Back at the restaurant, Rygel tries to persuade the robbers to hold Scorpy and Braca to ransom, but the robbers talk of burning the restaurant down. Rygel, much to the anger of the "robbers", figures out that they plan to burn it down for insurance money for the cook. The two robbers seem to agree with Rygel's plan.
On Moya, the situation stays the same, as Talyn will not let anyone on board and Moya refuses to budge. Crichton convinces Aeryn to talk to Moya, to convince her their plan is the best for Talyn. Moya grudgingly concedes.
The robbers, meanwhile, seem to be going for Rygel's plan, but Scorpius offers them a better one - ransoming Rygel to Hyneria.
After Moya has communicated with her son, Talyn seems to be willing to allow Crais to board to do what is necessary, but instead the gunship attacks Moya.
Meanwhile, D'Argo is having to keep Braca awake, and Rygel tries to convince the robbers to give them water, but Rygel is the only one them seem interested in keeping alive. One robber seems willing to go back to the old plan of arson, but is convinced by the other to continue the ransom. Scorpius though divulges the code for Braca's bracelet to Rygel.
Moya meanwhile is in a bit of a state, and her crew in disbelief. Crais, Aeryn and Crichton are admitted to board him though.
The robbers though get ready to ransom Rygel, but problems occur. They need a ship to outrun a Command Carrier. Rygel suggests D'Argo's ship, but of course D'Argo is the only one who can fly it. And one of the cooks gets shot. Oh well. Rygel though is caught trying to open Braca's bracelet.
On Talyn, Crais, Aeryn and Crichton manage to stop the gunship unleashing the big guns, persuading him he is sick and/or frightened. Talyn grudgingly concedes.
Meanwhile, D'Argo is getting much pain from his methods of keeping the wounded Braca awake, but the robbers try and get Rygel to kill Braca to prove his trustworthyness. Rygel backs down, because killing Braca would kill D'Argo, and then they wouldn't be able to escape on D'Argo's ship. But instead Rygel shoots Scorpius, and spots a hidden knife on a table.
On Talyn, Crais, Aeryn and Crichton shut down the gunship in order to begin procedures for resetting his personality.
At the restaurant, the robbers threaten to kill the waitress, but Rygel talks them down with promises of money. Rygel says he needs a souvenir from the dead Scorpius, and out of the sight of the robbers finds Scorpius still alive, with body armour. Scorpius and Rygel hatch a plan, Rygel telling Scorpius about the knife, and Scorpius giving Rygel a small, hidden pulse-pistol with a single charge. Rygel starts an argument with the robbers, and Braca sneaks off his bracelet and puts it on a robber. What happens next is quite amusing - D'Argo inflicts pain on himself to occupy a robber by repeatedly hitting his head against the floor. Scorpius gets to the knife and distracts the other robber, before his death by Rygel using the pulse-pistol. This opens up the original negotiations between Scorpius and Rygel, the two believing they can trust each other enough.
Returning to Moya, Chiana greets D'Argo and Rygel as heroes, and Rygel informs Crichton of their success of the deal. Aeryn has a bad feeling about going to Scorpius's Command Carrier, and doesn't want to watch John die again, though John stresses he is not the John she loved, and tries to persuade her, to no avail, to stay behind.

What I thought
Rygel has a use!!! Yay!!! Anyway, this episode is sort of odd. It flits between the storylines on the restaurant and on Moya very often, and I didn't particularly like the one on the restaurant. The negotiations were good, but the robbers were extremely irritating. The one on Moya however was a different story (I didn't expect to see Nojgil back, even if he did only appear for a moment and die with little recognition). The emotions played out during the story of resetting Talyn's personality were good, and it was a good solid story, especially some of the effects (you can tell this is one where they really went to town - hardly any of the effects were re-used). In any case, I'm not sure what to give this - I'm stuck between a 3 and a 4, it's sort of middling, a 3.5. So I think, using the maths system of rounding up, I'll give it a 4 out of 5.
