#0315 - Icarus Abides

Overview
Leaving off from Daedalus Demands, things aren't going well. The neural clone has gained control of Crichton, Rygel has a bit of shrapnel stuck in his guts, Talyn and Crais are blinded, a Scarran Dreadnought is on it's way to take out everyone on the desert planet, Furlow's computer has been hacked and the wormhole plans stolen, and Talyn has just been boarded by a Scarran. Now how the frell can they get out of this one?

What I thought
Faster paced than the last episode, this one gets rid of major(ish) characters with serious abandon. First to go is the neural clone, who tries to entice Aeryn to kill him and John. Next is Jack, so that's the link with the Ancients out of the window for the moment. And finally John dies, but not in the way I'd imagined. I always pictured him dying in a gung-ho style moment while destroying the Dreadnought, but not quite (his final speech lasts over five minutes!). And to think if it wasn't for Furlow stealing the displacement engine and getting the shielding knocked off he wouldn't be dead. But then there's always Moya Crichton left. A good episode in many ways - good storyline, plenty of character interaction between John and Aeryn (!), and Furlow seems to make it out alive (Maldis needed a companion in the "returning villain" area after Durka's impromptu death). There's also the side story on Talyn with Crais and Stark trying to outwit the Scarran. John's death, while being a bit long-winded, is tinged with finality as the crew say their goodbyes (I still wanted a gung-ho death!!!). But overall, this episode does lack some of the total guns blazing abandon which I love about Farscape - it has storylines that tax the imagination, but no-brains shoot-outs. And ultimately, even though this one had an excellent story, it just needed the guns-blazing bits to get a 5. Overall, a 4 out of 5.
