#0112 - The Flax

Overview
Crichton and Aeryn become trapped in an invisible net while Aeryn is teaching Crichton how to pilot a transport pod. Back on Moya, a character named Staanz comes aboard, claiming to be an ex-space pirate and knowing information about the Flax, a huge invisible net for trapping spaceships, and offers to steer Moya clear. However, he tells D'Argo of a tempting offer - a Luxan ship caught in the Flax.

What I thought
When I first watched this I thought it was an amazing episode. Enough happens in it - the Zenetan pirates are pretty cool, the scenario with D'Argo not trusting Staanz is decent, and the way the story branches off, at first into two, then three, is pretty damn good. The bits with John and Aeryn though - although showing off a lot of character 'interaction' - are quite slow, but then that's the only way they could have done them really. The episode has it's slow bits, and it's fast bits, much like any other episode. And the effects, such as the new ships in it, are very good as well (especially Staanz's ship near the Luxan cruiser). Maybe it's just so memorable first time round that every time after seems jaded in comparison. It has everything for a good episode - humour, weirdness, character interaction, romance - but I'm not sure. I don't think it deserves a 5, but I don't think it deserves a 4 either. Anyway, I'm going to make a decision and give it a 5 out of 5.
