Glass Collector v1.0

General Information

Glass Collector is a program designed to run on the Palm Computing Platform(r) that gives users the ability to track their glass collection. Glass Collector can also be used to keep track of items you are looking for without having to carry around that bulky book.

Requirements

* A 3Com (or IBM) Palm Connected Organizer running PalmOS v2.0 or later.
* 24k of free memory on your Palm for the program files/databases
* About 5k of memory free on your Palm during runtime of the application.

Features

Glass Collector is a simple tool designed to help you track all items in your collection as well as any items you are looking for. You can track the following information:

* Company
* Pattern
* Item
* Production Dates (years)
* Notes
* Current Value
* Your Cost
* whether or not you own one
* the item's condition

The items in the database are sorted and can be viewed by category (Vaseline, Carnival, etc.).

Main Form

When you tap the Glass Collector icon on the applications screen, you will be immediately taken to the main form. You will know you are at this form if you see "Glass Collector" as the form title.

From the main form you can add new items (by tapping the "new" button), edit existing items (by selecting them from the scrollable list), select/add/edit a the category, or activate the main menu.

From the main menu you can view the program information, edit the preferences, delete an item, beam an item, or beam all of the items in a category.

Each of these functions are explained in more detail below.

Edit Form

The edit form is where you will spend the bulk of your time. You will enter the company (45 characters), Pattern (45 characters), item (45 characters), production dates (4 digit years), the current value (or what I like to call "the most I will pay for an item") (10 digits), how much it cost you to buy it (10 digits), whether you own it, and the condition of the item (on a scale from 1-10).

Tapping the "Edit Notes..." button will launch the notes form. Tapping the "Details..." button will launch the details form.

You can also view the program info screen by selecting "Get Info" from the main menu and there is a full "edit" menu (includes cut, copy, paste, undo, keyboard, and graffiti commands).

NOTE: You must have AT LEAST the company and item fields filled or the item will NOT be saved.

Before you can rate an item, the own box must be checked. If you try to rate an item you do not own, you will see the message to the right. Tap the "OK" button to return to the edit form.

Notes Form

If you tap the "Edit Notes..." button on the edit form, the "Notes" form will launch.

This for is really simple. Add your notes and tap the "done" button to return to the edit form. There are no active menus on this form.

You can add up to 1024 characters in this field.

Add Company Form

When you tap the "Add Company" pop-up field, you can either select a company from the list or add a new company. If you choose to "Add Company", the "Add New Company" form will pop-up on the screen.

Preferences Form

When you select "Preferences" from the main menu, the "Preferences" form is opened. Tap the pop-up field to change the monetary symbol used on the edit form. Pressing the "OK" button saves the information and returns you to the main form. You can tap the "Cancel" button to exit the form without saving the changes.

Delete Items Form

The delete form looks the same as the main form except the title bar is labeled "Delete Items". To delete an item, simply select the item from the list. If you are done deleting items, tap the "Done" button and the main form will be displayed.

When you select an item to be deleted, the "Delete Item Warning" will be displayed. If you do not want to delete the item, tap the "No" button. Tapping the "Yes" button immediately deletes the item.

NOTE: Once an item is deleted, it can NOT be recovered.

If you select the delete option from the main menu and no records exist or you delete the last record in the database, the "No Database Records" warning is displayed. When you tap the "OK" button, you will be returned to the main form.

Beaming Items

The beam one item form looks the same as the main form except the title bar is labeled "Beam One Item ". To beam an item, simply select the item from the list. If you are done beaming items, tap the "Done" button and the main form will be displayed.

Once an item is selected, the system will automatically handle the beaming process.

If you selected the "Beam All Items" option from the main menu, the system will automatically handle the beaming process. The beam all items option only beams all of the items in the current category. In the image to the right, only all of the items in the "Vaseline" category will be beamed.

NOTE: Items marked private will NOT be beamed.

If there are no items in the database or you try to beam an item marked private, you will see the warning message to the right.

Tap the "OK" button to return to the main form.

If your device does not have an IR port, you will see the message to the right. Tap the "OK" button to return to the main form.

When you select "Get Info " from the main menu, the "Info" form is opened. This form tells you the version of the software and whether or not it is registered. Tap the "i" on this form to get the built in instructions and contact information. Tap the "OK" button to return to the main form.

Other System Dialogs

If you are not running at least PalmOS(r) version 2.0, you will see the message to the right. Tap the "OK" button to exit Glass Collector.

When you execute a system find and a match is identified in the Glass Collector database, the entry will look like the one to the right.
