Crookshanks is the pet of Hermione Granger. Crookshanks has ginger fur, a bottle-brush tail and squat, bandy legs. He is also described as having a "smashed face" which was inspired by a real cat Rowling once saw that she looked like it had run into face first a brick wall. Hermione bought Crookshanks from a shop in Diagon Alley out of sympathy, because nobody wanted him due to the fact of his face.
