Ash Vale Hampshire World War 2 Pillboxes and Anti-Invasion Defences.

This unusual pillbox is below the Basingstoke canal bridge at Ash Vale alongside the towpath, and dead opposite the Swan public house, It is all bricked up, but still has the blast wall on the south side. SU894527

The box is basically two quarters, one each side of the bridge, the northside is very overgrown with Ivy. It has 3 loopholes in each part

This pillbox formed part of Aldershot Command: Farnborough / Aldershot stop line - Stop line (known as a switch line) as part of the perimeter defences of Aldershot running south from Ash Vale to join the GHQ Line at Farnham. (Photos and text Tim Denton)
