Dogmersfield Hampshire World War 2 Pillboxes and Anti-Invasion Defences.

These concrete anti-tank cylinders near Dogmersfield along the Basingstoke canal still have a metal loop set in the top. This was intended to string cable or barbed wire as a further obstruction. SU 781 533.

Further anti-tank cylinders are located at various places near bridges where it would be possible to bridge the canal. They were constructed of concrete and are 4ft high with rounded top.

Further along the canal a now well camouflaged type 24 shell proof pillbox provides cover for the defending troops. SU 784 512.

This photo shows the rear entrance to the pillbox. These defences formed part of the GHQ Line (Berkshire/Hampshire/Surrey/Kent) - West - East section of GHQ Line running from Reading through Hampshire and West Surrey to Kent (Leigh) following in part a line south of the North Downs.
