Coxmoor Wood, Hampshire World War 2 Pillboxes and Anti-Invasion Defences.


At Coxmoor Wood, south of the Basingstoke Canal 180 concrete anti-tank cylinders with chamfered tops still stand in a double line from the canal through Coxmoor wood. SU 783512 - SU788510

The concrete cylinders were made from pre cast pipes filled with concrete although some were never filled and remain empty as shown in this photo.



These defences formed part of the GHQ Line (Berkshire/Hampshire/Surrey/Kent) - West - East section of GHQ Line running from Reading through Hampshire and West Surrey to Kent (Leigh) following in part a line south of the North Downs, as well as Aldershot Command: Fleet / Farnham stop line - Stop line (known as a switch line) as part of the perimeter defences of Aldershot running south from Fleet via Crookham to join the GHQ Line near Farnham.
