Beacon Hill Fort, Essex World War 2 Pillboxes and Anti-Invasion Defences.

Beacon Hill Fort is located on on the south side of Orwell Haven. The The fort dates back to Roman times, however more modern fortifications are the most visible.

This shows An EXDO post for sea mine control. It has been built on top of an earlier pillbox although the original rear entrance was blocked and the only access now is down a ladder from a narrow passage at the rear of the EXDO post. TM263326

The EXDO post has two rooms, the chart and communications room and a smaller one, the crew room. There is also a small observation loophole with fittings for shutters with an external concrete canopy above it and a small turret projecting from the ceiling which also has an observation loophole.
