Independent Applicants-Skilled Workers


 

 

The Independent Immigrant is assessed on a point system. A minimum of 70 points is required, in order to gain entry under this class. Further, the immigrant must have at least one year's experience in one of the demanded occupations.

Points are awarded for:

Education 16
Training and Vocation 18
Experience 8
Occupational Demand 10
Arranged Employment/designated occupation 10
Demographic Factor 10
Age 10
Language Ability in English and French 15
Relatives in Canada 5
Personal Suitability 10

If the prospective immigrant does not have a job that appears on an approved then the prospective immigrant may have to choose another job category to apply under or obtain specific arranged employment within Canada by obtaining a validated job offer with a Canadian company.

A good candidate for entry under this category would be a person with a University education, who speaks English and/or French, is between 21 and 45 years of age, and has a job which is high in demand in Canada. Candidates can receive more points if they have a relative in Canada.

Note that successful Independent Immigrants are able to immigrate with their spouse and dependent children. Unmarried children under age 19 are considered as dependent, in certain situations even children over 19 are considered as dependent children if they are enrolled in a full time educational institution.

The advantage of the Independent Immigrant class is that the immigrant does not have to invest any money nor does the immigrant require a minimum networth, although the immigrant must have sufficient resources to support themselves while they are in Canada..

Immigration interview are not mandatory and can be waived at the discretion of the visa officer,
