PRIVATE LESSONS
In private lessons we take an indepth look at your posture and physical mechanics that may be hindering your enjoyment of life.

The emphasis of this work focues on postural habits, pelvic and upperbody stability, breathing, and muscle strength and flexibility.

Special attention is paid to physical problems such as; scoliosis, sway back,  kyphosis,  lordosis,  ankle, knee, feet, hip and shoulder problems, osteoperosis, and other structural ailments.

BACKGROUND Janine McAlister

I began studying Pilates in 1992 while I was dancing with Whitworth Ballet.  I fell in love with the work because it significantly altered my strength and flexibility and stabilized my pelvis and shoulders as well as it enabled me to work comfortably in spite of my scolosis.

I studied Pilates in Santa Fe, New Mexico with Master teacher Michelle Larson to really understand the complex body of work called Pilates.

After 10 years of doing the work I still get  excited when students discover how to move smoothly and eliminate chronic pain that comes from poor postural and muscle movements. The work excited me because it was not mindless exercise where you follow the instructor and just try to make the shapes. In Pilates, you discover your anotomy and how to use specific muscles to perform a move which, increases your body awareness.  While learning about your body you lose inches all over!

I have been a ballet dancer and choreograher for 20 years and I have taught ballet at Whitworth College since 1996. I also work with students who are studying ballet /dance as a serious career choice. I help them find their deep core muscles, and stabilze their pelvis and shoulders that allows them to create the beautiful movements of ballet.
