I am in the city of Piura, in northern Peru.
Peru is about the size of the west coast of the United States. The beautiful Andes Mountain range runs down the middle of the country. To the east of the Andes is the Amazon River basin, which is primarily jungle in the north. Between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean are the plains and deserts of Peru. The most popular tourist site in Peru and the most likely place you have heard of is the ruins at Machu Picchu, where I went 2004.
Piura is located in a desert area, much like Phoenix, Arizona. It is about an hour drive to the Pacific Ocean. Lima, the capital of Peru is a one and a half hour flight or 8-10 hour drive from Piura. |
