| Santisimo Sacramento�s Social Assistance Program Piura has about 350,000 people and unemployment is at about 60%. The Parish of Santisimo Sacramento has set up the the following social programs to help alleviate the problems encountered in Piura�s population due to it�s poverty. Here are some of the major programs that the church has for the people of Piura: *The church has a social assistance program which helps local people with financial assitance, medical needs. *A family to family program where families or individuals in Oklahoma City sponsor families in Pirua. This sponsorship program provides a monthly container of food for the Peruvian family. In addition, the family or individual in Oklahoma can provide extra funds through the church, for various needs that the Peruvian family may have such as building or improving homes. Currently, there are over 800 Peruvian families adopted. *The Oklahoma parishes fill a 2700 cubic foot shipping container every 3 months or so of miscellanious items for the families in Piura such as clothes, bicycles, computers, household items as well as items for the local schools such as books and desks. *The church operates a drug rehabilitation program which usually houses around 25 residents. *The church builds schools, buildings for senior and community activities, and chappels in the area neighborhoods. | The Parish of Santisimo Sacramento is one of many Catholic Churches in Piura, and it works with the other parishes to serve many people inside and outside of it�s own parish boundaries. Santisimo Sacramento has been sponsored by two parishes in Oklahoma City and one in Milwakee. |
